What to do with misbehaving 8 yr boy?-also fun ideas to do?

Okay, so over this summer I've been babysitting this 8 year old boy. At first it was "okay" but now he has become moody, whiny and will not listen to anything I ask him. He is very smart and with that manipulative. Meaning he knows how to get what he wants. I'm not sure what todo...his mother is aware that he has been moody but is there something I can do? Also I think getting him out of the house more and having him do more stuff would help but I'm not sure what to do with him! He absolutely hates board games and most art things. Is there anything I can do? Thankyou! I'm 17 by the way If that makes a difference

This is his summer vacation and it doesn't sound like you have done much to keep him entertained. Can you ride bikes to a local playground? Are there other kids in the neighborhood he can set up to have play dates? Can you schedule a visit to the fire station for a tour? Check with you local township municipality to see if they offer any discount tickets to local attractions like a zoo or aquarium. Your local library will have activities scheduled throughout the summer for various age groups so stop in and get a calendar of events - they're free. Is there a mall nearby? You can go there to check out the pet store and play with the puppies or see if the toy store is holding an event that might have free give-aways or a book store with kid friendly events.

Sitting around the house watching TV and playing video games is fun - for about 2 weeks and then it is irritating. Go places. Meet up with his friends and the kids tire each other out without a lot of work for you! Know someone with a pool? Play Date! Can you ride bikes to the fast food place with the playground? Incentive for good behavior!

I've found this character on YouTube that works wonders whenever I babysit, kids of all different ages seem to love it. It's called "Gummibar," (I'm assuming it's pronounced "Gummy Bear" but I'm not sure,) and every time one of my kids is acting up because of boredom I let them watch it, keeps them entertained for hours! Not to mention, his songs come in like a million different languages, so the kids like to "teach me" what they've learned. They also come out with new stuff every week, which helps the kids not get bored with it. Might be fun for you to try, it's a great bonding activity that makes the kid feel like you're a friend/"student" more than a babysitter. Good luck!
