Why does the RAV4 LE have better gas mileage than the XLE?
I'm looking at the differences between the LE and the XLE. XLE has more stuff for only $1000 more, a price which I can afford. But the main difference that stuck out to me is that the XLE gets 2 mpg less than the LE. What can account for this difference?

According to the Toyota website, the LE, XLE and Limited have the exact same fuel economy estimates.
Make sure you're comparing the same drive train configuration for each trim line (both FWD or both AWD). There is only one engine choice for 2013.
g--the LE and XLE are both available as either front-wheel-drive or all-wheel-drive.

Weight. The XLE's AWD system adds significant weight to the vehicle, therefore reduces fuel efficiency.

WEIGHT and different gearing! the XLE may have DIFFERENT GEAR ratios to give it extra OOMPH but cost in mileage! CHECK WEIGHTS and ask the DEALERSHIP WHY! Their BROCHURES will explain this to you and the GEAR RATIOS are usually posted in there somewhere! Also the VEHICLE WEIGHTS will be there, TOO! ALSO one may be TWO WHEEL DRIVE and th eother may be FOUR WHEEL DRIVE which ALSO adds weight costs MPG's!Also check that the ENGIENS are the same! many times, one may have a FOUR CYLIDNER and the other a V6 engine! ASK the DEALERSHIP! ANd read the brochures
