Like Chipper Jones and Mariano Rivera, will every active future HOF'er decide to announce retirement...?

...prior to their final season? So they can receive a Christmas-load of gifts and applause from rival fans. Look at how fun these farewell tours are.

And from the fan's perspective we can savor their final appearances, knowing it will be their last.

But you wouldn't be able to change your mind and decide to return next season.

The thing about that is, the number of NO DOUBT Hall of Famers is pretty small.

And even more importantly, "very" few players KNOW ahead of time that a season is going to be their last. Look at how many future Hall of Famers retired because they just couldn't get a new contract, or actually were considering coming back another season before announcing retirement in the offseason. If you don't realize you're going to retire until it's December, are you going to play "another" season just for the recognition?

And again, that's for the few no doubt, first ballot Hall of Famers.
