B&A writers: If your character was a writer, would they finish their book +BQ?

I'm sure you've all had the problem where, for some reason or another, finishing your book seems more impossible than back-flipping across the Grand Canyon. Whether that reason is self-doubt or lack of motivation, hopefully you do finish your book in the end.

But what about your character? If they were a writer, how long would it take them to finish their book? Would they, even? What would they write about?

Feel free to add any other info.

BQ - When writing by hand, black or blue ink? Or are you completely wild and go for red ink? (Personally, I'm a black ink person).

Update:

Oh, sorry, maybe I didn't explain myself properly. I didn't mean that *you*, the author, writes a character who is a writer, I meant that imagine your character is real and... they were a writer. If that makes sense. Take yourself out of the equation.

Most characters who are writers are flat, I do agree.

My character is very driven, and doesn't like to leave things unfinished. If she was writing a book, it would be a fiction story that would better someone's life (i.e. make them re-think their poor actions, appreciate life more, want to go out and help others).

Since her book would be a positive one, not finishing it would be a disservice to someone who might have benefited from it. She wouldn't risk doing something like that, and would definitely finish the novel. My character is also very sincere and wants to try the best she can, so writing her novel would take a very long time to make sure it was as perfect as it could be. However, her impulsive side would mean that she'd have lots of editing to do. xD

The radical i am presently engaged on was 2/3 finished when I went back and deleted the whole lot from chapter three considering the fact that I decided I desired whatever thoroughly one-of-a-kind to happen. For my part the alternate has been for the better. It is customarily a new novel. I am 1/2 way via it. I in most cases do some planning too so I was once surprised once I simply deleted ninety% of my novel. I thought about just writing a 2nd draft with the opposite concept but I knew the 2nd suggestion used to be the one who needed to be written. BQ-About half-hour ago and am 1/2 means completed.

He wouldn't even start a story to be honest. If he did write any kind of story, it'd probably be a 1000 word nonsensical short story made entirely for laughs and he'd finish it in one night.

The only thing I can see him writing, is music. He's a very avid violinist. I don't know how long it'd take him but he'd definitely finish it eventually. I imagine he'd go on top of the roof with his instrument and just write it :)

When I write, I write in pencil :o I'm thinking about just typing all of my stories but I can't take my laptop to school with me haha. I'm conflicted about it

  • Honestly, I don't see him as a sit-down-and-write kind of person. But if he were, he'd probably write non-fiction heavily based on people he knows. He wouldn't be a writer like me or you because it wouldn't be his thing.

I'd see him picking up writing a book when nothing is really going on his life and putting it away when he doesn't feel bothered. He probably wouldn't come up with a plot exactly. Probably just random events, experiences, and memories.

BQ - When writing by hand, black or blue ink? Or are you completely wild and go for red ink? (Personally, I'm a black ink person).

--I go back and forth between black and blue. Right now it's blue. I used to write in red ink when I was in eighth grade. Don't do it! It bleeds right through. I tried reading some of my old work recently and it's hard work, let alone with my actual quality XD

My character does some literary translations. Not that that counts. He writes some papers on the dialects of his people, so other people can understand and teach the language better. I don't know that he would go out and write a book, but it's likely he would write about his experiences. How his home was "evacuated" by a foreign military. How he and other bilinguals (they weren't many) were forced to integrate with the soldiers. He'd want people to know how difficult it was, all of the issues that arose. I think he would finish such a project. There's time for it. But when he's hurt and can no longer participate in the military, when his family is gone and his injury prevents him from returning to his people, it's a foreign soldier who offers him a new life. He would never publish such a thing, saving the few who helped him shame.

BQ: Black ink. Anything else looks weird.

    Um. Well.

My one writer character's memoirs got hijacked by her dead mom so that's probably a "no"

  • My character would finish a book if she were writing it; she's not the type of person to leave work unfinished. She's driven to successful outcomes and would probably write a book about engineering.

I usually write in black ink or blue ink. Any color will do though.

Can you please answer my question? http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=201307...

Well, it just so happens that my character in my story receives a blank book on his journey, given to him by a man. The man tells him to write the story of his journey and the things of his heart, but my MC says, "I'm no writer!" And the man says, "that doesn't matter, just write in it anyway!"

And so part of my story are excerpts from my MC's notebook. And yes, he does write a detailed story of his journey.

Most probably wouldn't want to finish their own story. There's some harsh things in some of my stories and I think at least two characters would either be in denial or would rather not face, say, the death of their child.

BQ - I use whatever pen is at hand. My personal favorite writes in a deep purple color.

If I ever write a character who is a writer, I sincerely hope some one kills me. If all you can write are writers it shows you're out of ideas and likely shouldn't be writing.
