In seattle, What is the best way to get around?

What is the easiest way to get to downtown from the airport (Seatac)? What costs are involved and what things to look for would be nice. We are looking to get to Pike's Place.

What are some options other than metro?

Link Light Rail is the way to go.

Find the station at the airport by exiting out to the parking garage, and following the signs to the far end of the parking garage.

$2.75 per person and 35-40 minutes later you'll be in downtown Seattle. The last stop is at Westlake, which is at 4th and Pine. The main intersection for Pike Place Market is at the corner of 1st and Pike - 4 blocks west (toward the water) and 1 block south.

Note- it's "Pike Place Market" - not "Pike's Place". There is no "s". The market is named after its location on Pike Place, the small side street at the end of Pike Street. You'll mark yourself a tourist immediately by calling it "Pike's Place".

Yep, Link Light Rail is the best way from Seatac airport to Seattle.

The fair is $2.75 per person one way or $5.50 per person for an all day pass. There are pay stations at the terminal - buy a ticket BEFORE you board the train but no need to plan ahead. Ticket stations accept cash or Debit/credit cards and they do give change if you pay cash so no need to worry about carrying $1 bills & quarters.

The trains start at about 5:00am and run continuously until shortly after midnight. During that time they depart at least every 15 minutes (every 7 minutes during peak times). So there's no need to worry about schedule unless you're arriving late night early morning (midnight to 5 am when trains don't run). Worst case senario is you miss a train and wait 15 minutes for the next one.

Once you're on the train, sit back, enjoy the view. Its about 38 minutes from Seatac to the last stop at Westlake station in downtown Seattle so you have time to get out a book, laptop or whatever else you want to pass the time. Its still faster than a car, cab or bus that has to sit in traffic though.

At Westlake station take the stairs up to the street level (its an underground station in a tunnel). Walk about 4 blocks west and 1 block south and you're at the Pike Place Market. You can also take a cab if you prefer, but its expensive and with traffic it won't save you any time. You can shorten the walk by taking a bus but you still end up walking several blocks, and the bus is an indirect route plus costs a few dollars more (the train ticket is not valid on the bus), so I wouldn't recommend a bus. Just walk.

In Seattle, people basically get around to longer distances with Metro (or other bus providers).

Link Light Rail, which is operated by Sound Transit, also operates Sounder Trains but they don't stop at SeaTac.

The very first stop of the Light Rail is SeaTac Airport. The very last stop is Westlake Center, about four blocks from Pike Place Market.

The easiest way is to take the Link light rail train from the airport to the last stop, Westlake, which is about a five minute walk from PIke Place.

You can take a taxi, but it costs a lot more and if there is any traffic won't be any faster.

Your least expensive option from the airport to Seattle is the light rail: http://www.soundtransit.org/Schedules/Central-Link... It costs $2.75 per person each way to go to Westlake Center - about 4 blocks from Pike Place Market: http://www.squidoo.com/Seattle-Pike-Place-Market

Most of the main attractions that visitors to Seattle like to see are within a fairly compact area within walking distance of each other. The waterfront area is right below the Pike Place Market and Pioneer Square and the Underground Tour: http://www.squidoo.com/seattle-underground-tour is only about a half mile from the Pike Place Market

To get to the Seattle Center: http://www.squidoo.com/seattle-center about a mile from the main downtown area, the quickest and easiest way is to board the Seatttle Center Monorail: http://www.squidoo.com/seattle-monorail from the top floor of Westlake Center. The monorail costs $2.25 each way for adults.
