GOALIES: why did you choose goalie?

Easier than skating all over the place (or running if soccer)? Or you like being the sole last defense your team has?

I chose goalie because a team is only as good as their goalie. Meaning it is better to have a great goalie and terrible team rather than a great team and terrible goalie. Goalies change the game and it is not easy at all. it has been scientifically proven that the reflexes of a goalie are as quick as a cheetah. Plus goalies skate just as much as players it is just a different style. players have 30 second shifts or quick skating but goalies are always on the ice and when the puck is past center whenever it moves they move. And don't even get me started on actually stopping the puck.

The reason I chose to be a goalie is simple... the challenge. It's you against the shooter, and yes I play a big part in the outcome of the game. But I would honestly say that the goalie doesn't make the team great, I would prefer having a great team in front and an average goalie. Just look at the recent Stanley Cup winners and you almost never see the top goaltenders in the finals. And it's also rare that the goaltender wins the Conn Smythe trophy, if you have a good goalie it usually means you have good defense...

I am not a goalie but i have nothing but respect for goalies. Being a defenseman, i have some understanding for all the positions because i block shots like a goalie and go up and score goals sometimes. It is much harder to block shots so i couldnt imagine having to be the last line of defense. That is too stressful for me.

I wouldn't because it is too much pressure and a lot is asked of you...blame is mostly put on a goalie after a loss. I would assume that people who chose goalie choose it because all those things fuel them and they love being in the spot light. I make sure to always tell my goalie he played great no matter what because I wouldn't want to play there because it is not only the toughest position in hockey but it is the toughest position in all of sports.

i asked my son why he chose to play goalie and he told me "Well I'm really not that great at getting the puck in the net so i figured I might as well give stopping the other team from scoring a shot. "
