Would you ask more questions in the senior citizen category if the likelihood of being reported ...?
... wasn't as high as it is?
I used to ask almost all my questions here. The universal element f/ the collective sagacity of the readers qualified almost any question in this category. The typical contributors were kind, considerate and wise. I grew attached to expecting answers f/ people I became fond of. But the reporting went over the top. Now I check in infrequently, and my questions usually go elsewhere.
Incidentally, my questions rarely disappear f/ other categories ... it was only a problem in this one. I'm the same person, what's up w/ that?
meer- Thanks, your contributions are now, and always have been duly noted/appreciated ... just like "flower". The 3 of us (only 2 answers up now) have been here (YA) a LONG time. We probably all have our original account (I do).
When "mainstays" float among the people/categories, a pattern develops identifying respect.
Since I shied away f/ this category, I became aware of the acumen being expressed by same people in more than one category. They tend to be consistent and courteous.
dj- I saw that q. ... it was a good one. I went through the process to answer it but I don't remember if I posted.
I tend to be meticulous about my answers. Occasionally, I read what I wrote and become dissatisfied. I might have "TDd" my self and didn't click "submit". I don't remember but the proof is gone ... thus my inquiry.
dj- My account opened in 2006. The first 5 or 6 yrs. were conditioned to focus on the SC category. I LOVED it here. I know of DOZENS of people that became accustomed/developed affinity to this category by the friendliness, then subsequently discontinued their presence because the frustration caused by reporting was too great.
I feel confident the top 10 (this category) would attest to that. These are people familiar w/ me ... and I them.
cal- I have a couple questions up now I would have posted here "back before" that are both fun and interesting. But I don't want want to risk it in here now.
One about the "hyperloop" and the other about the "megacryometeor". The words can be internet searched.
It's a shame those kind of questions would once elicit MANY answers/stars f/ this category as people seemed to be genuinely anxious to weigh in ... those days are gone.
PL- w/ = with ... f/ = from
These words are used so often, I've probably saved 2hrs. of time by fewer keystrokes. I don't type very fast (the letter image is worn off all the keys except q,z and j). Plus, those abbreviations give my writing style personality.
I was- This category may get "chatty" but that can be subject to interpretation by the reader. The definition of chat may be specific, but the content is not always a clear violation as what appears to be "chat" to some, is meaningful intercourse to others trying to learn. Even still, it's innocuous. I see questions fly in some categories that are downright insulting to half the readers, but getting praised by the other half. On occasion, I get compelled to weigh in on how uncool that is. One needs a thick skin if in the wrong half.
The thing about chat, is it's so simple to move on. We move past questions all the time. Why judge?
Reporting can get contagious as people draw conclusions about who they thought did the reporting, then they set their sights on revenge. The first stone should be dropped.

Yes, I used to post in here very frequently, but it has become hateful in here anymore with certain 'regulars' being targeted and forced to move on.....mostly into FB. Now there is a sudden influx of new avatars and accounts that only answer each other for point gaming and spewing negative attitudes on every element of life.
There's the political basher, who is not even a senior, that has no scruples about dirty tricks, accounts and emails.
I know I will be deleted as usual.

Wow, it shocks me that this question is still here some 20 hours after it was first posted. Lots of wonderful answers. I use to love this category until all the bullies started showing up. It usually gets better once school starts and today was the first day of school in my city. It saddens me to think that there are people that have nothing better to do than to be just plain evil to people that they don't even know. That they can't find more productive things, in a positive way, to do. It just never fails that when people find a good thing there are always other people around to completely destroy it. This is what our society has become. What on earth could be fun about reporting all the time and doesn't Yahoo think it is strange that the same persons keep doing the reporting. The only time I report someone is when they try to pan handle for money in this category. I think that has to be against the rules. Well, anyway.....nice question Blu.

I used to come her A LOT but now it's just occasionally. I haven't personally lost an account but several friends have and others have been reported so much that they have just GONE. They are totally sick of the site (the reporters that is). They all say the same i.e. that it is good, honest answers that have been reported and that, when they appeal, they do not receive a reply - which Yahoo state we should receive.
This did not used to be the case. One friend was reported (a few years ago) and appealed. She received a reply saying that her appeal had been rejected but she knew that the decision was unfair so followed the next procedure of challenging 'that' decision also. Her post was then reinstated with an apology and her points reinstated. Now, they don't even acknowledge the initial challenge.
If I could find a similar site I'd use it but as things are here now I either take a look at other categories now and again or just don't bother very often. It is obvious to all that we have lost many good regular contributors who have left for the reason we are discussing now. They will probably never return and this category will eventually stop functioning.
BTW Blu what are all your f/ and w/ about? Never seen those as abbreviations before.

The reporting and deletions seem to wax and wane. Most times the reason is "chatting". that is bunk! the questions we often post here are asking for descriptions, experiences, often casual questions pertaining to things like the weather where one lives. the list goes on.
We have been a group who enjoy a posting of a poem or some other original writing, the question is maybe do you like this? that is not chatting.
We have rejoiced when a memorable event in one of the players life is described. We comfort when a player posts about a sad event. We like each other here and look forward to hearing of certain experiences, example, I've recently met a half brother I only had heard about. That was quite an event for me, I may post it yet with a question, would you like to see a picture of this meeting. should I do that, it will probably not last to long.
this category has been casual, it is not intended for answers to technical issues, therefore answers will often be opinions, which is what we are looking for.
I will keep coming here even tho I'm saddened by so many who have decided it is just not worth it.

HI Blu, good to see you.
I agree with everyone on here today.
We used to be able to give silly funny answers while still answering the Q and not be reported.
I think in some ways it must be younger people because they resent our humor and don't get it and realize they are out of the know . They also seem to think this is a senior school site.
I wish Yahoo knew how to do this better or stop all together. I miss all my old friends.
You guys helped me make it through my husband dying that year too as you gave me a break from being so alone with no one to talk to and at the same time get my mind off things for a while.

The account and user name I have now is not the same as I started with in 2006. I posted in the Politics category and then switched to SC's to get away from the nastiness in politics leading up to the 08 elections. Things were sweet for awhile in this section and then went south. I bailed out of Y/A altogether in 09, level 6 points and all be damned but I decided to come back in 2010. All was well until last year. All of us regulars were being attacked by report monkeys and appealing was an exercise in futility. I'm too old for this crap now but I hop in now and then to answer questions just for the helluvit. The quality of the questions has declined because of the rash of violations. I need not explain that, I'm sure you've seen it. I mostly just answer now, the good, the bad and the ugly.

Hi Blu,
I ask when I think of something good to ask and in a way it won't be reported. If I get reported, I just lay out for a while.
I enjoy the friends that I have made in this section, and this is where I have met many friends.

Yes Blu, I have asked few questions here and about half were reported. They were plain ole questions much like others I have seen here.
So mostly I just answer as best I can for what it's worth and sometimes I just come here to read the Q & A's
I have always enjoyed your Q & A's as I have most of the regulars here. I have never reported anyone. I just don't believe in reporting unless it is something really vile and racist.
I am a believer in letting the Trolls Q's stand so we can see who they are and how they think.

Hi Blu - I don't ask too many questions here, but yes, my answers sometimes get reported - at first it feels personal and like an attack, but now I just shrug - that is just a cost of playing in the sandbox here and I don't let it bother me anymore, though I surely understand... some people are rude and surely it is because of the anonymity afforded. I would expect/hope that they are not so rude in person - I see it in other categories too. And just ignore it. Unfortunately, we lose some of the best people because htey are decent and sensitive.
ps - I think proof of your point is that far fewer questions are asked in this category than ever before - so, go ahead and post them... we can use a boost here.

Hi, blu, I avoid this category more than I used to for the very reasons you state. I used to have a lot of fun here and I know I asked fun, interesting questions. But I maybe ask one or two questions a week now, and most of them get deleted. What's sad to me is that most of the people I grew to love are gone now, and the question supply is much smaller. There were only 48 questions on the active board a few hours ago, where there used to be at least 100. How sad.

I ask genuine and serious question yet some sad idiots on this site have the nerve to delete my questions which cost me a lot of points. I call this harassment and they should be banned from Yahoo Answers.
