My cat keeps scratching my carpet!?

when she gets excited she runs into the passage and starts scratching the carpet this has been happening since we got her. the carpet is starting to show with all this excitement... every time she does it we shout at her to stop and she just looks at us and stopss but sometimes she will carry on doing it while we are shouting at her to stop .. this only goes on for about 5 seconds then she stops ... how do we get her to stop...

shes got a scratch post and doesnt use it! she scratches the carpet right next to it.. the little s h i t lol

    I say let her do it. She could be doing things that are allot worse. You could possibly get a remnant piece of carpet at a carpet store and hope she would use that? There is scent info on the pads of her paws so she has adopted that spot to leave her scent. Its possible another animals left their scent thee before her and she is trying to cover it. You could buy an oder eliminator and spray the spot that might help.

    If you can afford to get rid of your carpet , that would be the best bet , but if you cant , get a cheap scratching post for your cat.

    You need to train her to use the scratching post. such as whenever you see her scratching carpet move her to the post.
