Can emotions burn calories?
Recently I had a bad day at work. This ultimately built up to an unfortunate angry outburst later (thankfully out of the workplace) that seemed to completely exhaust me once the rage had worn off. The next day I felt really exhausted, as if I hadn't eaten enough recently. It made me wonder if perhaps emotions, or emotional outbursts, affected caloric use in your body, causing you to burn through them suddenly or slow down their consumption. Could anyone shed some light on this question?

If while in your rage you move around a lot eg. lots of arm movements, thrashing around, kicking & stomping your feet etc. then you will be burning calories. Any movement be it walking, running or jumping and the like will burn off calories.
So yes rage can burn calories. You can burn calories while having sex (if it's vigorous enough).
Now crying not so much.
Fear - if you stand still frozen in fear - no calories will be burnt. Now if you run around like as if you are a chicken with its head cut off then yes calories will be burnt.
So some emotions will burn off calories. How many is unknown.
