    an infinitive is the form of a verb "to xxxx". Examples, "to have", "to go", "to be", "to blame"

    Splitting the infinitive occurs when you place the adverb between the "to" and the "xxxx".

    Star Trek opens with the phrase .... "to BOLDLY go where no man has gone before"

    That's a split infinitive. It should be "to go BOLDLY where no man has gone before"
