Orthodox Jews: Why did my conservative Hebrew school not teach vowels for Hebrew letters?

Update:

I meant to say, why did they not teach us how to read Hebrew WITHOUT VOWELS. Sorry.

    B/C they're not necessary in classical Hebrew.
