Does time reallt exist?

I have always been fascinated by time...

Does it really exist? As a comppnent lf the universe? Isn't time jusy a measurement created by man to help organize a caotic world?

I just have a hard time grasping how time can exist. Sure there is a past a present and a future but that doesn't particularlly mean time is a component of space

Time would exist the same whether you measure it or not, if humans disappeared tomorrow time would still pass at the same rate even if there were nobody to measure it, an electron would still orbit around a nucleus at the same rate and the speed of light would be the same, etc

If your contention was right, Man would have to have been there from the beginning of the Universe. However, Man as we know the term today has only been around for about 50,000 years. Your argument would suggest nothing could have existed before we were here to measure time, and we know of course this would be absurd. Time passes in the Universe quite serenely and does not care whether we measure it or not. Our methods of measuring time are our own invention, but even then they are based upon astronomical events such as our journey round the Sun (the year) and the rotation of our planet (the day). Einstein proved that time exists when he realized that space cannot exist without it and vice versa. To illustrate this, he coined the term spacetime to show the two elements are indivisible and form a single entity. At a basic level, time is a measure of entropy which shows the descent from order to disorder. The basic law of entropy states that it always increases with regard to the Universe. Any local order such as a building is always more than equalled by an increase in entropy elsewhere. This is what gives us the "arrow of time", always pointing in the same direction, that is, into the future.

Time actually tends to cancel out in many attempts to combine General Relativity and Quantum Mechanics which is even more troublesome when you consider that in Special Relativity, time is allowed to warp to maintain the speed of light where as in Quantum Mechanics, time is arbitrarily fixed. It's often said that time is an illusion, just a very persistent one.

However, the idea that time is an illusion is the exact opposite of what you're thinking because it would mean there is no past, present or future, they all exist with equal validity. it's only our perception of space that is defined by where in time we are in a continuum of spacetime, time would be an illusion brought upon by how space and matter are interelated, it would have to be a result of space.

The fact that we have an artificial measure of time that we created isn't relative, an inch or a centimeter are also an artificial measure that we've defined. Saying that time is just a measurement is a ridiculous statement cause it doesn't matter what the measurement is or if there even was a measurement.

Time not only exist but is more complex than most people actually understand.

Time flows what was a few moments ago no longer is this moment and so on. Nothing is ever the same therefore time or the passage of it is a fact. You can call it whatever you want as long as there is change from one state to the other time will be a component of that change. When everything no longer changes time will cease.

Of course time exists. Because of time we can move, grow, build. Nothing is possible without time. Time creates the future which becomes the present and the past.

How long does it take for you to inhale and exhale? How long does it take for you to brush your teeth? How long did it take you to type this question? Did time pass for any of these events? Of course. If time didn't exist, you wouldn't exist either Forrest.

Time is a property of matter and cannot exist as a separate entity.

You could do worse than read up on Einstein's special theory of relativity.

If time did not exist, everything would happen at once.
