I always thought oil is/was a liquid.

It's what's been used up to now.

What I really think is it's simply a half-measure designed to be the least offensive to (what they think is) their "traditional" follower.

What makes me laugh - continued selling of "bigger is better" without regard to consequences.

More bang = more heat. More heat makes pissed off customers.

This is more about fixing a marketing ploy than the EPA.

Of course, I continue to call riding in the rain "liquid cooling".

I'm not against a radiator by any means. My favorite is still the 1982 Yamaha Vision.

A 60degree water-cooled V twin that went from drawing board to production in less that a year.

So, are you talking about a Harley or the 2013 G1200RS BMW? After building the same tired old boxer twin for 80 years with only minor changes, they now have something that cranks out 120 hp with twin overhead cams and liquid cooling. Oh wait, all that Harley haters talk about is how HD hasn't changed the engine for a century (and they have made substantial changes). Subtract 20 years and you could be talking about BMW. And why does BMW still build the boxers? Because that's what their customers want, the very same reason HD keeps building the air cooled V twin.

Incidentally, I ride Kawasakis and have never owned a BMW or HD.

Probably a good idea but personally its not for me. The fact that the motor company happily sold twin cams for 6 or 7 years before correcting a number of obvious problems on them was pretty telling for me.

I also don't like things like the fake ignition cover that are put on there simply for looks, take the 5 screws out & you find nothing but empty space . sure you can hide a bag of pot in there but I'd rather have a functional flat or finned cover on the timing side.

I'm an old Harley guy with a 47 knuckle chopper an 82 shovel FXR & an 06 TC in my basement but the new 2014 Indians look really really good to me.

If Harley doesn't wake up & change back to being a motorcycle company instead of a flashy advertising & image promotion agency the new competition is going to eat their lunch one of these days & a lot of us wont shed a tear about it.

Yeah I think the new chain tensioners (06 & up) have fixed that problem. I got worried enough to blow $50 on gaskets & check both the cam chains & automatic primary chain adjuster on mine last winter & didn't find enough wear to change anything. I figure the cam chains are good for about 75,000 miles or so.

Don't know what kind of mileage to expect from the primary & the new style oil pump.

Had to use an electronic digital snake to see the top back adjuster as theres not enough room to get a standard 1''1/4 inspection mirror inside & didn't want to open an unnecessary can of worms by removing the oil pump if the tensioner shoes werent worn yet..

From the pic of your bike its a Harley that may be new for Harley but I have a bike that 28 years old that has twin cams,16 valve inline 4 and its liquid cooled. That makes me ask why it took Harley so long to build them.

I'll stick with the EVO until others prove the new motors .

BTW , Did HD ever resolve that cam chain tensioner problem with the " new and improved " twin cam ?

I'm not opposed to a liquid cooled Harley. I wouldn't run out and buy the first year model. I'm sure they'll have some bugs that need to worked out. I'm still not done with mine anyway.

Air cooled Harley Davidsons have been going up to 200,000 miles for many years but current emission controls are so lean that this became necessary.

I dont have any plans to get rid of my air cooled Super Glide, it is absolutely perfect as far as I am concerned.

So Jason since my sportster makes you yawn when are you giving me the $6000 for a big twin. Don't be a prick dude.

It will only be a success if the bike gangs ride them, the whole Harley lifestyle is based on impersonating Hells Angels.

My last air cooled motorcycle was in 1982, its about time Harley tries to be in the right century

Wish they would stop selling lifestyle accessories and focus on making a decent bike... But, they need to maintain the "image" because without it, they would have been dead and gone long ago.
