What do you guys think about the Nintendo 2DS?

I feel like it's unnecessary. It's features aren't really anything the 3DS can't do. But I can see why it would have a niche market of parents buying it for a young child. For example:

Only Playing in 2d: It is very easy to change the parental controls on a 3ds and 3ds xl to disable 3D completely. If you don't want it to hurt your eyes or just don't like it you can do that and the 3d won't turn on even if you move the slider so young kids can't turn it on when your not looking, So maybe this is for parent's of kids who know how to change the settings.

Price: $130 isn't that much cheaper than the original 3DS. One can easily buy a new 3DS with store promotions and coupons for the same price. But not one is as good as a bargain shopper.

Design: The placement of the buttons by the top screen makes it look awkward to play games on, especially games with heavy stylus or bottom screen use. The lack of a clam-shell hinge makes the system less portable and leaves the screens exposed to the elements. For someone who would be taking it everywhere this seems like a bad choice. However the lack of a hinge might be due to target audience which is parents buying it for their young kid as it would make the system harder to break since they can't snap the hinge.

Most people don't seem to like it. But it makes so much sense for nintendo to make it. Clearly it's aimed towards a younger audience( the benefits of the 2DS mostly cater towards children). Here's why I think it makes a lot of sense. 1.) It's a bit less expensive- Yes I know it isn't SIGNIFICANTLY less, but a $40 difference can appeal to a greater audience. 2.) People don't care much about 3D- Sure it's an interesting and compelling feature, but many people don't use it or like it at all. Some people would rather not pay for the feature. 3.) It makes parents happy- The 3DS can be detrimental to the development of childrens' eyesight. The 3DS DID have a feature to turn the 3D off, but parents can feel safer knowing that the feature isn't usable at all.

Those are all the pros of the system, however it has have a few downsides to it as well. Many people are complaining about the design on how it will not be able to shut ,therefore it will not be able to fit in pockets; overall not making it very portable. You can tell that nintendo is marketing and aiming this product directly at kids (ages around 4-8). The console comes out on the release day of Pokemon X and Y. Overall I like the idea of it. It reminds me of the gameboy micro, it was a newer and sleeker gameboy advance aimed at a certain audience. However I believe that the 2DS will do better in sales than the Gameboy Micro, that's because it is coming out in the middle of the 3DS's lifetime and that it is aimed at a slightly larger audience.

It looks pretty cool if you ask me. And yes, it is targeted for a much younger audience! Because its more durable! Im not afraid to say that i kinda want one! :D

It's meant for people >7 years old. So they don't damage their eyes, or break the clamshell.

That being said, I think it's pretty cool.
