Ifyou have a old fashioned paper phone book then look at the first few pages and maybe the few pages before the end.

The first few pages usually have random infor mation about the city and also has emergency help numbers such as womens shelters. Go head and call even if it looks like it is a nation wide hotline because they will often have that. The hot line will give you another number to call that is a local shelter in your community.

You may as well go ahead and take the pages out of the book and tuck them in your purse. It may also be a good idea to have a small bag packed in case he tries to make you leave without any warning or time to pack. Call the numbers soon before you get thrown out and find out the adress and directions to the local shelters. If he is abusive to you tell the shelters as it may speed up your wait for perment placement at a long term shelter.

If he is abusive some womens shelters require you make no contact with him. If they find you have contacted him you will be told to leave. Shelters do not mind helping but they can not have a potentially dangerous man visiting a place where some of the women are seeking shelter from men who have put ball bats and golfclubs to their skulls.so be sensitive to those women and go by their rules.

You may also try to locate a ph# for the salvation army. They have been known to purchase bus tickets for people. Call a store location and ask for a shelter number. You may have to make several different calls to their various offices but you will get the right person eventually.

Source(s): You may find a free hone at public libraries or even the lobby of a police station. Also large hospitals have courtesy phones in waiting area. Many hospital staff will let you use a phone if youask them for one. You may also ask a hospital chaplin. And too many churches run food pantry and provide other services. So if you have a church that does social services for the community they would likely let you use their phone.
  • I would suggest that any shelter would make a pregnant woman a priority. As someone said - police are very helpful here...

Not sure what you are seeking shelter from - if homeless government will do something for you and fast.... if it's from violence, the same will apply.

Who pays the rent you or him. I don't think he can throw you out if you're cosharing ?

Clearly you have access to a computer perhaps via a library so Google local womens centers and shelters. Then get off the computer and see if the library has a community notices board or pamphlet rack.

Yes... You'll have to call the police non-emergency number, unless you have a real emergency - in which case, you should call 911.
