Has true genocide ever been commited in human history?

We all know that ethnic groups have been subject to genocidal programs, but I don't think that any of these programs have been successful. People throw this term around not really knowing what it means. The only true genocide I can think of during human history (and it might better be termed an extinction or cross-breeding out of existence situation) is the complete removal of Neanderthal man.

Many groups have been trageted over the years and many have died, but no true genocide has ever actually been carried out. I don't think that a true genocide can happen. Localized, perhaps, but not a true extermination of every example of a particular people.

Give me an example of a true genocide that was planned with intent, forethought, planning, and execution. World-killing impacts don't count.

    The Tasmanian aboriginals were all but wiped out by disease and conflict in 30 years in the early 19th century, and there are no full-blooded survivors left.

    Well your statement is only true when you add "true" in front of genocide. But there have been a lot of true genocides in the world, in terms of animals.

    Anyway, as defined by the United Nations, Genocide is the intent of killing off an entire group of people. Being completely successful has nothing to do with it.

    There is also this one group of people that we don't know about because they are all dead....

    @Steven J you are way off topic man. Anyway if you want to go back even further why not blame the workers that worked on those weapons. Then blame the inventor of ALL weapons. Man that caveman thta first tied a piece of rock to a stick must be a real D*CK for killing untold billions of people...

    If you want to blame someone for any killing, blame the person who is doing all the killing. Not saying the enabler is blameless but that doesn't mean they are killers.

    Genocide is the in part or entire intentional destruction of an ethnic group, etc. The Rwandan or Jewish genocides are good examples. Also disease and genocide cannot be included with each other unless it was also intentional (or by accident and then exploited for the purposes of destroying an ethnic group).

    Maybe you should go back to basics and learn what the word genocide means, it does not only come into effect when a whole race, cultural or religious group has been wiped out;

    Oxford English Dictionary; the deliberate killing of a large group of people, especially those of a particular nation or ethnic group

    Merriam Webster Dictionary; : the deliberate and systematic destruction of a racial, political, or cultural group

    The international legal definition of the crime of genocide is found in Articles II and III of the 1948 Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of Genocide. Article II describes two elements of the crime of genocide: the mental element, meaning the "intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group, as such".

    The Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide was adopted by the United Nations General Assembly on 9 December 1948 as General Assembly Resolution 260;

    Article 2 of the Convention defines genocide as;

    ...any of the following acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group, as such:

    (a) Killing members of the group;(b) Causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group;(c) Deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part;(d) Imposing measures intended to prevent births within the group;(e) Forcibly transferring children of the group to another group.

    Or to put it simply genocide is mass slaughter of a group and we have seen many examples of that.

    Yes, the US sold billons of dollars of deadly gas to Saddam Hussein. Fell free to google it. I did. And the first page had plenty of sources you can pick from.

    The war hawk Sen. John McCain said nothing about it when intelligence knew Hussein killed many hundreds thousands of Kurds with our deadly gas. What a useless phony after he is one of the harshest critics that we should respond militarily the hardest against Syria! Feel free to hit search on Sen. McCain's oiwn US Senate page. He did nothing until a town hall until 2002 with only vague refrences. Not the lets go to war McCain now!

    Plus Ronald Reagan was president. So he did deal with terrorists when the US sold the billons in deadly weapons. Somehow Hussein was our friend at the time and became a deadly terrorist. Just like Bin Laden!
