It's actually a lot of hassle. You'll have to go into the BIOS and disable secure boot or enable legacy BIOS. After that you'll need to make sure that there are Windows 7 drivers for your computer. Then you gotta bay a copy of Windows 7 Pro an do a clean install.

Windows 8 can actually be customized to work like Windows 7 for free. Here's a guide I wrote up.

If it's a laptop then disable the app switching gesture.

Win + I → Change PC settings → General → Turn off "When I swipe from the left edge, switch directly to my most recent app."

Win + I then click Control Panel. Type default programs into the search box. Click the set your default programs link. Default Programs will load a list of programs installed on your PC. Find Windows Media Player in the list, click on it to highlight then click the set this program as default button. Do the same for Windows Photo Viewer and Adobe Reader. If Adobe Reader isn't installed then install a copy then go back to Default Programs and set it as the default.

Now video, audio, pictures, and PDF documents will open with desktop programs instead of apps.

Finally, install a start menu replacement. Classic Shell is free and it can be customized to look like the Windows 7 start menu. Dig into its options to skip metro and disable active corners. Now your PC will go right to the desktop after it starts and you'll have a start button and start menu.

    Ta-da! Windows 8 is now Windows 7.

Since the computer is brand new, there is nothing on it you would need to back up. You only back things you added like music, pictures, vids, documents, etc. Since there will not be any on the nde computer you will not need to back up anything.

You would need to purchase a Windows 7 install disc. (Price arpund $200) Put the disk into the computer and reboot. Let the computer bbor from the disk. (You may have to go into the computer's Set Up and tell it to boot from the CD/DVD drive.)

Once it boots, the Windows 7 install will begin. Because Windows 8 is already on the commputer, Windows 7 will not install. You will have to select to delete the current partition/os on the disk, select to create a new parition, and then select to format it. That will wipe out Windows 8.

Then let the install run and your computer will be downgraded to Windows 7. Once installed, you may have to go the web site of the PC maker, look up the model, and download any Windows 7 drivers it needs. (You may one to download them first and save them to a CD or USB flash drive. If one of the drivers you need is for the network card, you will not have Internet until the driver is installed.)

If you ordered the PC on line, may I suggest that you contact the company and see if they can ship it with Windows 7 instead/ It will save you several hours of work converting the PC.

Or you can survive Windows 8 for a few weeks until the release of Windows 8.1 (which will be a free download). 8.1 promises to fix most of the major reasons that people hate Windows 8. It will convert it to work like Windows 7 with a desktop by default and a Start Menu.

    Hi Wizzard,

To install a different version of Windows on the system, you will need recovery or installation media (DVD). Before you install a different Windows, I would suggest you to save the data on the system in an external device. Refer to the link for instructions on Operating System Reinstallation: http://dell.to/15MYHsz

Once you install the Windows 7 Operating System, you will have to install the drivers from the manufacturers support site.

Refer to the link on Microsoft Support site for more information on downgrading Windows 8 to 7: http://dell.to/141JV1N

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks and Regards

The main problem you will run in to is,

lack of drivers for windows 7 for a new computer pre loaded with windows 8.

before you remove the operating system you have now,

first check that all the drivers are available.

    if they are not,

you will have to write them yourself,

which is not an easy task,

it just took me almost a year

to write a set of chipset drivers for a dell computer.

Windows 8 is much more stable to me, and its faster, and other overall its same except the start menu.

Anyway, if you want it out badly, then just grab a windows 7 cd from torrent or if you wish to use genuine one go ahead, get it from market. Put it on the pc, and start setup... Format partision and install it..
