Why aren't Christians loving?
1) assume this is true, as it is in some of my experience. (i.e. don't convince me I'm wrong. I'm not asking 'whether' but 'why')
2) assume Christians are human, made of the same stuff as other religious folk, atheists, etc.
3) answer my question.

For their bible tells them so.
And more, their preacher tells them so.
Religion is based on hate and fear.
How could that ever be considered loving.
Christians define the word "love" a lot different than Webster does.

Why do you assume something you don't know? Why are you generalizing? I know many loving Christians.
If you don't believe in God, why do you think somebody should "love" you??
Read a little history. Who where the most loving persons in history? Have you read about Albert Schweitzer? About David Livingstone? Just two examples.
Not anyone who claims to be a Christian really is one.
Christianity isn't some magic that transforms anybody suddenly into a perfect loving human who can't fail anymore. It's a permanent struggle with evil.
God asked Christians to love even their enemies. This isn't an easy thing. The whole Bible talks about love and about what true love means.
Although love surpass justice sometimes, it doesn't mean love ignores justice forever. Out of love, God must also protect good people against evil.

If you assume only based on your past experiences. You can't answer why without answering whether. My guess is that you met people who are not strong in their faith or not really christian.

Trusting people is too risky for most. We don't spend enough time with each other to reach the point where the risk is low enough to extend love.
Betrayal is frequent and vicious.

i have found that most are christian in name only...it's almost like jesus was the white sheep of the family...

Their belief system has eroded their moral compass. They don't believe in being "good" for the sake of making others feel better, they believe that "good" is serving their war-mongering, bloodthirsty psychopath God.
Lying, killing, raping, and stealing for Jesus is okay as long as it's done for Jesus. Thankfully, it's no longer punishable by death for me to say this publicly.
