Fellow cigarette smokers - do you chain smoke sometimes?
If anyone is unfamiliar with the term chain smoking, it means having cigarette after cigarette, and quickly.
I have frequent pain and take pain medicine almost as frequently (legally prescribed.) The problem is, they both make me chain smoke. I also do it while social drinking in the one club I know that allows smoking inside - it’s a private club - but I don’t do that very often at all. I find myself not even realizing I’m doing it until I realize the pack I just opened is already half empty or when I realize my throat is sore!
Do you have things that make you chain smoke, and how do you deal with it? I would really like to stop it. I am OK with my smoking, but this is ridiculous!
I’m hoping for answers other than just willpower. Face it, if I had any willpower when it came to smoking, I would have quit already!
Thanks in advance for any suggestions you may have!
To both answerers so far: I appreciate your efforts, but you haven’t answered my question here. That’s why I addressed this to Fellow Smokers; I wasn’t looking for a bunch of non-answers from people who are anti-smoking.

1) An old fashioned cigarette case that holds 5-10 cigarettes. Take it when you go out and, usually, knowing you only have a few will make you think when lighting up. Also, the cases open like a book, and you remove the cigarette from under a clasp, so you have to /look/ every time you grab a smoke - added benefit: other people are less likely to "bum" a smoke.
2) At home, as often as possibe, make your own cigarettes. Nowadays, they have inexppensive machines that will roll a proper cigarette, with a filter, in seconds. Most major tobacco comanies put out their own tobacco and filter-tubes, so ittastes like "the real thing". Keep the machine in another room so you have to get up and /work/ for the cigarette when you need them.
3) Make one area you use most (for example, the computer desk) a smoke-free zone. Many people don't have the willpower to restrict smoking to the outdoors or to a single room, but /do/ have it in them to refrain from smoking in a small area.
4) Put yourself on a schedule. 1 smoke every X hours. Seta timer or alarm, and keep the cigarettes near the timer. Occasionally you may slip, but the timer is a good/frequent reminder.
5) Only buy enough cigarettes for 1 pay period. If you smoke your allotment for one day, you must suffer till the next day.
I've tried every possible combination of the above, and actually ended up cutting down to 5 a day :)
Best of luck~
