How do you carry/hold conversations?

I'm not exactly a shy person but when it comes to carrying or holding a conversation, it seems particularly hard. The most I can get out of a conversation is "hows your day?" other than that I am clueless about what topics to talk about, I am also bad at talking about myself since I don't really feel like I have anything noteworthy anyone should know or just don't remember any good stories to talk about.

Ask the person about themselves. People like to talk about themselves, once they get started.

Keep em going with more question. Don't bombard them though. Add in similar things you may relate to or have in common, ' oh I did that once' or I always wanted to try that etc.

Its a starter...and it just goes from there.

When you think too hard about what to say, you won't say anything worth listening to. When you learn that just being yourself and let the conversation take it's own course is when you will be most interesting. When you are always thinking of what to say next, you are forgetting to listen to what the other person is saying.
