There is a problem with your battery, so your computer might shut down suddenly?

I've had an Asus UL80J laptop for about three years now, and when I turned it on today there was a red X over the charging icon in the bottom right corner of the screen and in addition to what I posted in the title, it also says "Consider replacing your battery." I have noticed the past few weeks that the battery has been running out rather quick when I've had it unplugged. Can I just simply buy a replacement battery off of Ebay to solve the problem? Is there any danger in using my laptop in the meantime while I wait for it to come in the mail?

Ya, you might want to buy a replacement battery. Make sure you get authentic ones, however. Knock-off Chinese cheap/crap batteries have been known to catch fire / explode.

You can also safely operate your laptop with no battery inside. You just have to keep it plugged in all the time (until the new battery arrives).
