  • Can mononucleosis recur?

I'm 23 and about two months ago I had a SEVERE sore throat for almost 5 days, way worse than the usual sore throat I've ever gotten from a cold. My tonsils swelled up and every time I tried to swallow my body literally shook because it was so painful. I went to the campus health clinic and the strep test was negative, so there's a good chance it was mono. Now I've had that same kinda sore throat for the past couple of days, and while its not as severe as last time its still worse than a cold.

Biochem help - which of these substrates has the weakest binding?

    Two questions:

An enzyme binds various substrates. Determine:

    (A) substrate with the weakest binding

    (B) substrate for which the enzyme has higher specificity

The question allows me to select multiple answers so I don't know if that means there are multiple answers.

  • Becoming a CNA/EMT before medical school?

In December I'm going to graduate from the University of Arizona with a biology degree, and then next fall I'm planning on applying to medical school. I'm not applying this fall because I haven't taken the MCAT yet, and frankly I haven't been able to study enough for it to be able to take it by the end of September. I was studying abroad in Australia from February-June and now I'm totally booked with work and two summer classes that I'm taking. Applying next fall would also give me some more time to add to my clinical experience because aside from a one week volunteer trip to Honduras I don't really have any. Do you think I should just try and volunteer at a clinic somewhere or would it be better to get certified as an a CNA/EMT and then get a job? I'd like to have some sort of cash flow coming in after I graduate so I figure maybe that way I can knock out two birds with one stone?

  • Is research experience or hospital volunteer work more important for medical school?

I'm going to be graduating this December and I'm planning on applying to medical school, though I'm not sure if I'll do it this fall or next. To strengthen my resume do you think it would be better to try and get some sort of research experience or do volunteer work at a hospital (already done a little bit of this in the past)? For this last semester, I'm going to be taking 16 credits, and on top of working at Subway I'm also involved with my fraternity, so I think trying to fit both in would just be too stressful.

  • Sensitive tooth after dentist visit?

Less than a week ago I visited the dentist to get my teeth cleaned and I also got a small filling (I'm 22 and that was my first one). It was on one of my molars at the top and now the adjacent molar has become sensitive to cold drinks/food. It became sensitive two years ago, but after I started using sensodyne toothpaste it went away. Is it likely this sensitivity is related to my dentist appointment and will go away soon? Also, is Act Restoring mouthwash good for sensitive teeth or is there alcohol in it that could make the problem worse?

  • Spilled water on keyboard, some keys not working?

I have an ASUS laptop and the other night when I got home I accidentally spilled some water on the keyboard. It wasn't a ton of water or a full out spill, I just squeezed my water bottle and some of it splashed onto the keyboard. However, its been almost 48 hours and some of the keys still aren't working. Do you think it would've dried out by now and is it likely I'll need to get a new keyboard? The computer works fine, and I've since plugged an external keyboard into the USB so I can still use it. However, this is obviously a hassle though. I'm studying abroad in Australia right now and I'll be going back to the US in a month, but with finals coming up I can't afford to ship my computer off somewhere for a week so they can replace the keyboard.

  • Will a seed stuck in my molar cause decay?

Lately I've been buying this passion fruit yogurt, and some bits from the seeds have gotten stuck in two of my molars. I know that the dark spots I'm seeing aren't cavities, because I've had problems in the past with poppy seeds and raspberry seeds getting stuck in these exact same spots. It usually takes a lot of work to get them out with a toothpick, and with the passion fruit seeds its been a real struggle and I haven't been able to lodge them out. I've been brushing twice a day but that hasn't done the trick either. If I can't get them out soon will it eventually cause decay and lead to a cavity?

  • Name of song on ESPN's Australian Open coverage?

Does anyone know the same of the song that ESPN is using for its Australian Open coverage? They usually play it when they cut away to a commercial. One of the songs is "Life in Color" by One Republic but I'm not sure what the other one is called.

Find the equivalent resistance for both of them and then for the last one also find the EMF across the battery. Thanks!

  • There is a problem with your battery, so your computer might shut down suddenly?

I've had an Asus UL80J laptop for about three years now, and when I turned it on today there was a red X over the charging icon in the bottom right corner of the screen and in addition to what I posted in the title, it also says "Consider replacing your battery." I have noticed the past few weeks that the battery has been running out rather quick when I've had it unplugged. Can I just simply buy a replacement battery off of Ebay to solve the problem? Is there any danger in using my laptop in the meantime while I wait for it to come in the mail?

  • Samsung vs LG, which is better for 32"?

I used to have a 40" Toshiba but unfortunately it got stolen over the summer while I had it in storage. I'm looking to get a new 32" for my college apartment bedroom, but I can't decide between the following two TVs:

    1.) http://www.sears.com/samsung-32inch-class-720p-led...

    2.) http://www.walmart.com/ip/LG-32LN530B-32-720p-60Hz...

You might have to copy/paste the links into your browser for it to work, but do you think the LG or Samsung would be better?

  • Can someone give me some advice on fishing for carp?

Hi, I live in Wisconsin and there's a river near my house that empties out into Lake Michigan so I'm assuming that there are carp in it. Will nightcrawlers be a good bait? Also, how big do these fish get and do they put up a strong fight? Is this a schooling fish? Meaning, if I don't get any bites for a while I should move to another spot?

  • My Blu Ray movie plays the previews, but not the movie - what's wrong?

I just received Argo and Silver Linings Playbook in the mail today after I bought them off EBay. I watched Argo and there was no problems, but when I tried watching Silver Linings Playbook it played all of the previews and then the screen just went black. At this point the Blu Ray player became unresponsive for the most part as well. I restarted it and tried again but the same things keeps happening. Both of the movies were sealed brand new, so is it more likely something is wrong with the disc or the Blu Ray player? I have a Samsung BD-P1400.

  • Should I have both of my wristbands on one arm, or one on each arm?

I've always had one of those Livestrong type wristbands on my left arm which "Polska" on it that refers to my Polish heritage. Today I just got initiated into a fraternity and after wards we all got wristbands. If people have multiple wristbands do they usually wear them on the same arm or have one on each arm? One of them is yellow and the other is red.

  • Multiple choice - When retinoblastoma protein is inactivated, how is cell division affected?

a - Genes that are required for passing the G1-S checkpoint are transcribed, translated, and the cell passes from G1 to S.

b - There is no effect on the cell cycle, although cells may experience a change in transcription of certain genes.

c - There is continued inhibition of transcription of genes required for passing the G1-S checkpoint; therefore, the cell arrests in G1.
