When I purchased my laptop PC 1.5 yrs ago, I had the option of purchasing Office, or using a downsized version?

of Word Starter and Excel Starter. Word & Excel are the only products I need. With the last Microsoft update, all of my documents are frozen, and I am offered several Office packages to purchase. Are the downsized starter programs no longer available?

    starter is really only for new computers.

    If you don't want to purchase a license for MS Office, you could try the Office Web Apps on SkyDrive:

    https://skydrive.live.com/

    They ought to provide the same (or possibly more) functionality as the Starter versions, considering they were designed to replace them.
