If anyone here is allergic to aspartame, how does it affect you?

I have no vices in the world except chewing sugarless gum...unfortunately I have reason to believe I've developed an allergy to the junk, AAAAAAAhahahahah.

Maybe I'll go for the "curiously peppermints" instead w/almost no sugar in them whatsoever.

Ohhhh yes. More than n allergy I might call it a sensitivity. Apartame gives me a violent headache (borderline migraine) and makes me feel all-over ucky. However, I CAN tolerate sucralose -- another product that replaces sugar without the calories. I use Splenda in my tea and sprinkle a li'l on cereal at times, and have been able to wean myself off table or "regular" sugar in this way...however fake is fake and although these products are approved and such... I'd go lightly with them or try to avoid them at all if possible. I will use sugar-free gum too but believe me, aspartame makes me so ill that I read every sugar-free label VERY carefully.

I unknowingly drank two mid-size cups of crystal light at a BBQ some years back and had to take headache med and eventually excuse myself from the event way early as I couldn't take the strange headache! It wasn't until I had it again when I asked someone what it was and then read the label and talked to my doctor about it. He said he had other patients with the same complaint about aspartame! Good luck to you !

All sugar substitutes are pretty much as bad for you as just eating the sugar so if you don't need to reduce your sugar intake, I'd go for the real stuff. The only sugar substitute I've seen that may help someone is Stevia. I've read that it helps diabetics be less resistance to insulin. The rest of it needs to be left alone.

It causes your heart to explode, don't eat anything with sugar in it. It's all aspartame in disguise. This includes fruit, it's a conspiracy by the farming companies, which are run by neo-nazi illuminati jews.

Source(s): You're fine. Chill, and if any symptoms actually are directly caused by chewing something with aspartame with it, check in with your doctor. You may be allergic to a seperate chemical.

i have read all kinds of horror stories about the stuff, so i stay away from it. thursday i went to a diabetic help group led by one of our hospital dieticians, and he said they have proved nothing bad about it officially. but i'm still gonna let it be.

Small amounts don't bother me, but I stay away from artificial sweeteners because most of them give me gastric distress.
