As a Christian, How does one forgive a man who verbally degrades his wife?

My daughter was verbally called several nasty things on my dad's property by a man who was there when my dad was not. She left the premises. I got a phone call from the man that he was calling the police to report that my daughter and son-in-law stole something while they were at the property. My wife and I went to the property and I went inside to find witnesses. While I was inside he began screaming and cursing at my wife. She is a sweet Christian lady who said very little in response. I came back outside as he was finishing his nasty comments. When I got closer he backed away and left the area letting me know that he was "calling the police". We called our daughter and went to the police station to report what had happened. It is extremely difficult for me to pray for this man and ask God to forgive him right now. I saw him today and did not speak to him because of my anger. Please let me know how you would be able to handle such a situation.

Thank You,

Eds

You are letting anger control your life. Jesus said "before you take a splinter out of a man's eye, first take the plank out of your own eye." In the Lords prayer it says forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those that trespass against us." So if you want God to forgive you of your sins then you must forgive others as they sin against you. And when you forgive, forget it just like we want God to forget our sins.

Read Matthew 6:14 and 15. For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you:

But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

    Eph. 4:32 Forgive one another.

How many times are we to forgive a person 70 x 70.

Do not judge other people harshly because God will judge us as harshly as we judge others.

Pray for your weakness in forgiving and God will help you. Let God punish the evil in man not you. Prepare yourself for heaven and please do not let the angry words from this man cause you to become angry and miss heaven.

Umm, well I can forgive most people like that because I pity thier inability to control their anger. This man is letting anger consume and control him, thus wrecking his life. If you(and the rest of your family) could stay calm and peaceful during all of this, you obviously have much more discipline and control. Now this does not mean you're better than him, because all are equal, but it should make it easier to forgive. Remember that Christ asked us to Love everyone.

Eds, for me I have to keep reminding myself that Christ died for me while I was yet dead in sin and trespasses. If He can forgive for me for all I did before and since He saved me, I should be able to forgive others for I am dead to sin and have the power of His resurrection within me.

If it becomes overwhelming, fast and pray. Ask God specifically to remove the anger and unforgiveness you have toward this man. God honors consistent and persistent prayers especially while fasting. I'll be praying for you my brother.

A good person is obligated to forgive, whether Christian, Muslim, Buddhist, Hindu, Jewish, or any faith. I don't know if you will take what I say into consideration, but this is the prayer we say to forgive others.

'Master of the Universe, I hereby forgive anyone who angered or antagonized me or who sinned against me - whether against my body, my property, my honor, or against anything of mine; whether he did so accidentally, willfully, carelessly, or purposely; whether through speech, deed, thought, or notion; whether in this transmigration or another transmigration - I forgive everyone. May no man be punished because of me. May it be Your will, my God and the God of my forefathers, that I may sin no more. Whatever sins I have done before You, may You blot out in Your abundant mercies, but not through suffering or bad illnesses. May the expression of my mouth and the thoughts of my heart find favor before You, my Rock and my Redeemer.'

It's not always easy to forgive others for things they do against us but if we want the Lord to be merciful towards us, we must in turn be merciful towards others.

It is so very difficult when you are fuming inside and when the offensive behaviour is towards another person than yourself. Perhaps you could start by asking the Lord to show you this person as He sees him. If we could see other people as persons for whom Christ died, it would greatly help our attitude towards them.

I'd like to share this clip with you. http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p010gppk It concerns a father who attended a Remembrance Day service in Northern Ireland which was bombed by the IRA. His daughter died in his arms. You can hear his response for yourself.
