That first cup of coffee?

Why does that first cup of coffee in the morning always taste better than the rest of the pot does?

Because its probably the first thing you drink in the morning and its just so refreshing. I get the same feeling whenever i drink coffee, water or juice in the morning. Or maybe cuz the first cup you pour is fresher than the rest of it....

Could be one of two reasons:

1-The first cup is fresher. By the time you finish the first cup, the rest of the pot have changed slightly.

2-As you crave caffeine, your brain will make you think coffee tastes so delicious so that you drink more. When you get enough, your brain doesn't need more caffeine so it's indifferent to the taste. I noticed from experience that if you drink less than your usual amount, every drop of that coffee tastes like heaven.

Try to have half a cup and after you finish that, pour in another and see how your perception of taste changes as you're finishing that cup.
