why do people stereotype Japan?

Japan is a very beautiful country with lots of kind people, you'd know that if you watch NHK regularly at how amazing they are at overcoming problems and coming up with inventive ideas, but now people are always talking about them and 'tentacle porn' or something like that. But other countries are far worse than that, I know relationships aren't as ideal as western relationships but at least they have far more respect than some cultures. I've spoken to some Japanese people and they're really friendly and smile a lot, not only that, they have pride in their work and more traditional culture but then people go back on the porn stuff, Japan obviously has far more to offer than that if you bother to read about it. I fin it really frustrating. I know some of their recent history isn't anything to be proud of like WWII but no one else's are either.

People watch anime and suddenly they think they are experts. It's kind of funny in a sad way. And embarrassing.

Because there are a lot of incredibly ignorant people out there, for example, the Amar Saleem character posting at the top of this list.

And Amar -- "The Japanese" didn't invent tentacle porn. A Japanese manga author invented it, and it expanded into a very tiny fringe demographic that's considered perverted even in Japan. Thinking that Japanese in general are looking at tentacle rape all day is about like assuming that all Americans are watching "Two girls one cup" all day, or that all Pakistanis are watching goat sex porn all day. It's just silly.

they did invent tentacle porn tho, that's not a stereotype, it seems to be part of their culture

elegua: hokusai made tentacle porn ages ago, it wasn't a manga artist who invented it, and even hokusai didn't invent it, he was drawing on an older tradition, it's a traditional japanese story and it's a reflection of their culture, they're a people who don't mind the idea of that kind of interspecies erotica .. and i'm not saying there's anything wrong with it by any means, that's their culture and whatever they do is fine by me as long as they don't murder or anything truly immoral.. and i didn't try to imply that they all sit around looking at this stuff all day, of course they have jobs to go to.. denying that they don't mind tentacle porn is like denying that the british ever eat fish and chips, it's nothing but PC thuggery

Rather ironic, you generalised 'people' to all stereotype Japan when I don't and know other's who don't
