Why do Mormons make God an exalted man? God clearly tells us he is not man and is the ONLY GOD?

It seems like Joseph Smith couldn’t grasp who God is, so JS made God a man so Js could be comfortable with his version of god. Why do you think JS change Gods nature?

John 4:24

24"God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth."

Hosea 11:99 for I am God, and not man; the Holy One in the midst of thee:

Numbers 23:19

God is not human, that he should lie, not a human being, that he should change his mind.

Isaiah 46:55"To whom would you liken Me And make Me equal and compare Me, That we would be alike?

Isaiah 46:99"Remember the former things long past, For I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is no one like Me,

Isaiah 43:10

"You are my witnesses," declares the LORD, "and my servant whom I have chosen, so that you may know and believe me and understand that I am he. Before me no god was formed, nor will there be one after me.

Isaiah 44:6

"This is what the LORD says-- Israel's King and Redeemer, the LORD Almighty: I am the first and I am the last; apart from me there is no God.

2 Corinthians 3:17

Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.

Update:

@ papa smurf - I am not the one to do that, GOD is, please see above, that is what God tells us about himself.

Because that's what Joseph Smith taught them was true. And so, mormons believe him and not the Word of God.

    It's that basic.

Source(s): @ Pub, Jesus wasn't an "exalted" man. There was nothing to "exalt" Him to, already being divine and eternal. He was only human on earth, but in Heaven He was always God. I know its a hard concept for you to contemplate, not having the right equipment. But, do try. At least once in your life? Live a little. Be brave!

Jesus Christ is an exalted man. Why is it not possible that His father was too?

    re:

    John 4:24

24"God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth."

---Yeah, because he is not physically with us to worship, hence we must worship in spirit. No part of that says He is ONLY spirit. Jesus is resurrected to a physical, immortal, perfect body. And he teaches us he can do NOTHING except what he has seen his father do.

Hosea 11:99 for I am God, and not man; the Holy One in the midst of thee:

-- Yup. An exalted man IS a god.

    Numbers 23:19

God is not human, that he should lie, not a human being, that he should change his mind.

--Yup. He was never born on Earth, since he created it. But he is a perfected immortal physical and spiritual being. This verse speaks to his nature, hence the reference to actions (changing his mind, lying, etc).

If you continue reading from the Isaiah verse:

[11] I, even I, am the LORD; and beside me there is no saviour.

[12] I have declared, and have saved, and I have shewed, when there was no strange god among you: therefore ye are my witnesses, saith the LORD, that I am God.

[13] Yea, before the day was I am he; and there is none that can deliver out of my hand: I will work, and who shall let it?

Yes, He is our only savior. And God is our only God. We worship none other. He is making a great effort here to declare that no other God is God. We believe that.

    Isaiah 44:6

"This is what the LORD says-- Israel's King and Redeemer, the LORD Almighty: I am the first and I am the last; apart from me there is no God.

----ie: stop looking to other pagan animal Gods, I am it! And yes. we believe he is our only god.

Nothing you have produced proves anything you are trying to prove. It only shows that the way you interpret the Bible can vary from one group to another. Both having equal standing in their interpretation. You take for granted that your interpretation is right.

re: "We Christian believe that we will SHARE in the divinity of God as stated in 1peter, but that does not mean that we will become Gods as mormons suggest."

Same thing. "Sharing in his divinty" IS the same as our concept of becoming a God.

Because they do not have an understanding of God or the Trinity. Just look at Publius respond. You can see the confusion. I might add that his responds might be typical of mormons because of their concept of God.

They believe God the Father to be an exalted man as you mention. So with that logic, they believe that we Christian see Christ as the same.

No. we Christians of the Trinitarian believe see God the Father as the creator and not man, and we see Christ as 100% man and 100% God Jesus is all divine as God and was incarnated as a man but as God needs no exaltation. Yet Publius mormon logic states that Jesus can not be both man and God but rather one or the other.

We Christian believe that we will SHARE in the divinity of God as stated in 1peter, but that does not mean that we will become Gods as mormons suggest.

"It seems like Joseph Smith........" There's your problem.. You are speculating. You do that, and you run into trouble. Anyone can speculate anything. You have, after all, accused Joseph Smith of that, yet you do it yourself.

Out of every single passage of scripture you quote, there is not a single reference that says to the point, "I God was never a man." Yet, you as a professed Christian would not disagree in recognizing that Jesus Christ lived on the earth, ate, slept and drank like any other, felt anquish and pain, like any other, and most importantly, died like any other human being. Would you not agree?

Christ, then, would certainly be a man become immortal, just like Mormons have been saying the gods can, from Joseph Smith onward.....

Its all there in the Bible.

It must be that part in the Bible about God making man in His own image. And the other parts where God calls us His children. I'm pretty sure that if we were made in God's image, then God must be a man and being the great all mighty God, He is exalted. Exalted means to be of divine nature.

  • You all assume that Mormons believe that God is some daggy bloke that, kazillions of years ago, cleaned himself up, passed go and collected his 200 bucks. Not.

Please try to see the whole picture, if you are capable.

    Latter Day Saints believe that:

--God created the entire universe, heavens and earth

--He has supreme wisdom. He knows all, and creates and keeps all universal laws

--He is perfect and capable of unconditional love (which we, in our mortal state, are not)

--He is sinless and without blemish

--We are created in His image, (says so in the Bible) therefore, He looks like us

--We are here because of His will, and our lives are planned by Him, nevertheless, He gives us the gift of agency so that we may choose to follow Him or not.

--Most of all, He is our FATHER. Our Heavenly FATHER, our FATHER in Heaven and we are His children.

Ok, so that's what we believe. That being cleared up, why is there a big rat's booty worth of difference what else He may be, except to you guys who are busy splitting hairs? Seems like a giant waste of time. Why not celebrate our common love for our Father in Heaven rather than try to start sparring matches with people who might have a slightly different interpretation of the scriptures that testify of Him. Oh, gosh, that's too boring, aint it?

Keep telling yourself that if it makes you feel comfortable. He was saying that he is not a mortal man with a mortal man's weaknesses.

You believe that Christ is God. Very well. Christ is an exalted man, with a tangible, physical, and immortal resurrected body. You can't have it both ways, pard.

Because that's how they see it. God doesn't "clearly tell us" anything. A bible written by men who SAID they were transcribing god's words tell us that. Even assuming a god exists, you have no better insight into he/she/it's nature than anyone else does, and the fact that you think you DO have better insight is only a tribute to your own massive arrogance and ego.

why do you say just mormons when every christian sect of this day and age follow the same deluded principles how do they blag so many converts to this blasphemous monstrosity of a lie "christianity" i really dont know, i can tell you for sure the 12 deciple's practised torah law as did Jesus, Jesus's deciple's knew Jesus was a prophet and not G-d neither the son of G-d they knew Jesus's mother was not the mother of G-d! or the mother of the son of G-d, i feel sick to the stomach just repeating these trinitarian blasphemy's if G-d has said so many times ("as you have gave exact biblical quotes") if G-d has said so many times i am one worship no other! then where do christians get the bloody cheek to go against G-d again? how many times would you let a man spit in your face before you punch him? they spit towards G-d in heaven and gravity does the rest! i tell you now for a fact this rapture is not their saviour only their demise, they will not be martyred in the rapture only be sent straight to hell for blasphemy and for leading others astray! masses convert to the wolf in sheep's clothing all of them lambs to the slaughter, when Jesus comes down from heaven and preaches he is a prophet not G-d or the son of G-d what will the christians do then? turn their backs in pride and say he is an imposter? even if they believe him the people who have died as blaspheming christians it's the preaching christians hands the blood will be on!!! there's no chance for forgiveness for the dead!!! yeah!!! so carry on knocking on doors you jehovah's witnesses and co after i afore warned you you are wrong you turned and mocked me and the signs that accompanied me your pride will be your downfall, even if christians believe Jesus when he returns they will walk with red faces of shame forever, you should have swallowed your pride when i gave you that chance. if i was in charge of the world! preaching blasphemous christianity would be punished severally for all the reasons above and more!!! their pride and because they deceive so so many in their wolf in sheep's clothing wether they know out of pride or not they are a massive massive threat to the redemption of mankind i think it's safe for you to know today just as a decade ago you will never be able to comprehend how much i hate christians and for how many justified reasons.
