Which of you geniuses think that shutting down the government saves money?

"A government shutdown would hinder the economy, waste billions of dollars in federal funds and put a scare in the markets, according to experts. It’s already causing a slowdown in normal operations for agencies and businesses.

"The Office of Management and Budget estimated in 1996 that the two closures in that fiscal year, which lasted 26 days total, cost the government $1.4 billion, or roughly $2.1 billion in today’s dollars."

As someone who is not a government employee but interacts with the government, I can tell you that it's perfectly clear that the uncertainty around the end of every fiscal year results in a lot of waste, delay, and inefficiency. Federal workers basically spend a whole month preparing for various contingencies for the new fiscal year and shutting everything down at the end of the fiscal year, and then starting it all up again. It's a huge interruption in the business of government with no real reason or purpose, an artificial creation of busywork that does no one any good.

But of course cons believe that the government doesn't actually do anything. A real government shutdown might disabuse them of that notion, as our society begins to fail.

This ain't got nothing to do with saving money ! This is about power ! Too bad the repuggs working class supporters can't see that ! The part of the economy that has all of the money won't be hurt at all ! On the other hand ,Joe Bob ,who thinks he is a conservative might get a pink slip but Joe Bob, is completely convinced that he is a conservative because the SOUTHERN STRATEGY tells him he is ! The repuggs pulled in a lot of suckers when they came up with that SOUTHERN STRATEGY ! Lee Atwater is rolling in his grave, laughing at all of the fools who fell for the SOUTHERN STRATEGY ! Karl Rove visits his grave once a month and tells him what a fine fellow he is !

Its obvious that it would cost billions. Even the uncertainty that it might happen could cost 100s of millions. The titans of wall street will step in and slap down the Republicans who think that they may really do this.

Who would actually think that defaulting on a debt payment saves money? Do some people think that it will save them money if they miss a credit card payment? Don't they know that the interest rate would then increase on future payments?

I'm done worrying about this. It's like worrying about global warming. If the majority of people are just too d*** stupid to see that they're headed over a cliff and taking the rest of us with them, there really is nothing I can do about it. The best strategy you can employ when you find yourself surrounded by irrational idiots is to make your peace with the fact that they will probably get you killed one day.

  • That would be like not paying your electric bill till later. And thinking that it would somehow be less. The "Debt" is what we already owe. The only way to change that is to not pay our soldiers, and everybody else, who gets gubmint paychecks.
