The event usually referred to as “the end of the world” is described in 2 Peter 3:10: “The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything in it will be laid bare.” This is the culmination of a series of events called “the day of the Lord,” the time when God will intervene in human history for the purpose of judgment. At that time, all that God has created, “the heavens and the earth” (Genesis 1:1), He will destroy.

The timing of this event, according to most Bible scholars, is at the end of the 1000-year period called the millennium. During these 1000 years, Christ will reign on earth as King in Jerusalem, sitting on the throne of David (Luke 1:32-33) and ruling in peace but with a “rod of iron” (Revelation 19:15). At the end of the 1000 years, Satan will be released, defeated again, and then cast into the lake of fire (Revelation 20:7-10). Then, after a final judgment by God, the end of the world described in 2 Peter 3:10 occurs. The Bible tells us several things about this event.

First, it will be cataclysmic in scope. The “heavens” refers to the physical universe – the stars, planets, and galaxies—which will be consumed by some kind of tremendous explosion, possibly a nuclear or atomic reaction that will consume and obliterate all matter as we know it. All the elements that make up the universe will be melted in the “fervent heat” (2 Peter 3:12). This will also be a noisy event, described in different Bible versions as a “roar” (NIV), a “great noise” (KJV), a “loud noise” (CEV), and a “thunderous crash” (AMP). There will be no doubt as to what is happening. Everyone will see and hear it because we are also told that “the earth and everything in it will be laid bare.”

Then God will create a “new heaven and a new earth” (Revelation 21:1), which will include the “New Jerusalem” (v. 2), the capital city of heaven, a place of perfect holiness, which will come down from heaven to the new earth. This is the city where the saints—those whose names were written in the “Lamb’s book of life” (Revelation 13:8)—will live forever. Peter refers to this new creation as “the home of righteousness” (2 Peter 3:13).

Perhaps the most important part of Peter’s description of that day is his question in verses 11-12: “Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be? You ought to live holy and godly lives as you look forward to the day of God and speed its coming.” Christians know what is going to happen, and we should live in a way that reflects that understanding. This life is passing away, and our focus should be on the new heavens and earth to come. Our “holy and godly” lives should be a testimony to those who do not know the Savior, and we should tell others about Him so they can escape the terrible fate that awaits those who reject Him. We wait in eager anticipation for God’s “Son from heaven, whom He raised from the dead, even Jesus who delivers us from the wrath to come” (1 Thessalonians 1:10).

This earth will be destroyed (cleansed of sin) and made over again. -

    2 Peter 3:10-13 (KJV)

10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.

11 Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness,

12 Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?

13 Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.

    Revelation 21:1 (KJV)

21 And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.

When God created the universe and men He said it all was very good. The purpose was and is to glorify His name. "His name" is all that He is. After the fall He cursed earth and it will eventually end up in flames when time is up. 2 Peter 3

10 But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything done in it will be laid bare.

In or around 5 billion years from now the Sun will have long become a Red Giant.

Ballooning to many many times it's original size.

During this process much if not all of the Solar system will be vaporized.

However in around 3 billion years the Earth's temperature will have reached incredible levels and in turn our atmosphere will be destroyed and our planet will sit with nothing but rock for the following 2 billion or so years.

IT WILL NOT BE DESTROYED...BECAUSE it has to remain to be the home of the righteous.

(Psalm 37:9) For evildoers themselves will be cut off, But those hoping in Jehovah are the ones that will possess the earth.

(Psalm 37:29) The righteous themselves will possess the earth, And they will reside forever upon it.

And without ever having to die...

(Revelation 21:4) And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.”

No. God's purpose for the earth and mankind is for people to live for him, helping others and telling others about God and how they can be saved. In the end times, after Satan is thrown in Hell, there will be a new earth. God and believers will live here for 1000 years. Then their will be a judgement for the wicked and they will be thrown in Hell, forever. Then their will be a new righteous Heaven and Earth, where Christians will live with God forever.

Yes, definitely - the Bible says so "The heavens will pass away with a great noise and the elements will melt with fervent heat BOTH THE EARTH AND THE WORKS THAT ARE IN IT WILL BE BURNED UP........." (2 Peter 3:10 -18)

The purpose God had in his heart when He created us was for fellowship. Adam ruined all that when he sinned and now humans are all born spiritually dead, cut off from God, into Satan's kingdom of darkness and on our way to hell already. Only Christ can make us alive (Ephesians 2: 1 & 5). Because we are born spiritually dead to God, Jesus said we MUST be born all over again in order to SEE God's kingdom (John 3:3) and born of water and Spirit in order to ENTER (John 3:5). Anyone who isn't born again has no fellowship with God, because the only way to the Father, even in prayer, is through Jesus Christ and if we have never received Him as Saviour and been baptized INTO Him, we are still operating from spiritual darkness through our old sinful nature, and God cannot look upon sin. We must be covered with Christ's righteousness which will be imputed unto us, if we do what He says. That's why Peter said, "Repent everyone of you and be baptized for the remission of your sins and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:38).

In a baptism of repentance (which is specifically for the remission of our sins Mark 1:4), Jesus will Himself wash us from our sins in His own blood (Rev 1:5). Then God will deliver us OUT OF Satan's kingdom of darkness and translate us INTO the kingdom of the Son of God's love (Colossians 1:13), adopting us as His children and giving us an inner witness thereof (Romans 8: 15 - 17).

That's why Jesus said, "He who believes and is baptized shall be saved" (Mark 16:16) because in a baptism by full immersion,m we 'die' so to speak and are 'buried' with Christ so we can be raised to walk in newness of life in this world and resurrected for eternity. During baptism, our old man - which is our old Adamic sin nature (Romans 6:6) will be crucified with Christ, so we are then no longer slaves of sin (Romans 6: 3-7).

This is the good news of the gospel, that even though we are born sinners, there is a way to be saved, through repenting of our sin (Acts 2:38) & the WASHING of regeneration (water baptism) and renovation of the Holy Spirit (Titus 3:5), for baptism now also saves us...through Christ's resurrection and is the answer of a good conscience before God through Christ's resurrection (1 Peter 3:21)

Maybe humans will make the world uninhabitable, but I doubt the earth will be destroyed as in, the whole planet blowing up like a run-in with a Death Star.

The Three Days of Darkness . A purification of fire to rid the world of all evil. Approx. thee quarters of the earth's population will be killed. This will happen before Christ returns.

Nothing to do with god.... Everything that has a beginning has an ending. I think the earths destruction is inevitable or at least it's ability to sustain life. There's plenty of time though, I wouldn't worry about it.
