Senior women, where do you wear your "best" dresses, suits to?

Aside from church, I'm somewhat puzzled on this. I have a couple of "good" outfits which are sort of mouldering away in my closet. They're far from "designer," but they which would certainly be inappropriate at Walmart or the super market -- the main places I ever go. Your thoughts?

Not been to a church for decades.

The kilt set had an outing for the opening of Oktoberfest in Munich. Probably put on the good gear for the next party.

If your glad rags are not getting an airing you need to do more.

Well, I often want to wear a dress when I dress up a little bit, & that would be church, which is kind of rare, to Senior Citizens events for the church when they go out to lunch or have other events, for another group when there's a potluck at somebody's house, to a college stage play, which is fairly frequent, or to a special reception or other event at work, since I haven't retired yet.

My main problem with dressing up is that I never seem to have the shoes to go with the dress...sandal strap broke or don't have any winter ones, etc., so I end up wearing slacks or capris that go with the shoes that I have. Would like to wear those dresses that are just hanging there. So, it all boils down to doing what I don't like to do, which is shopping for shoes. Eventually, I'll get out there & try some on. Groan. I have very sensitive feet by the way. It's even worse when my feet are swollen. Moan & groan again. So, that's why I wear slacks, Capris, or shorts most of the time.

I dress in my best for church. I'd dress well to meet the Queen. The King of Kings is worthy of more effort than is the Queen so I never go to church looking sloppy.

I don't have any really fancy dresses but I have smart suits (with skirts or trousers) and I have 6 nice cotton Summer dresses which I have worn more this year than the previous 3 years put together, because we've actually had some nice sunny days this Summer in the U.K.

Most of the time I wear casual clothes though and this usually means trousers with a nice top. Trousers are acceptable on ladies these days and mine are all very nice, smart and don't look at all masculine.

The last good suit I bought is hardly ever worn at the moment.

I bought it for job interviews. It was a 3 piece suit, skirt, slacks and a jacket in black. I have forgotten the designer right now, I want to say Donna Karen but not sure.

I wore the skirt and slacks allot for work so if it hangs for a few more years I know I got my monies worth on that suit.

In the 1980's I bought a pricey black suit, a skirt and jacket by Christain Dior.

I have it hanging and moldering away in my closet. Still fits nicely although the shoulder pads are a bit too wide for now, hope it comes back in fashion soon.Only wore it once for a flight attendant interview and to a funeral. Sort of pricey for only 2 wears.

We live in Budapest and sometimes I do get in the mood to dress up just for a Sunday walk, the only problem is I can't walk far in nice dressy shoes with heels so I often wear a dress with flat boots, not exactly what I want to wear with a dress but if I can't get around then I can't "show off" my outfit.

I am amazed how so many women can walk around in high heels on cobblestones, not me...

I cannot answer if it must be 'aside from church' because that is the only place I do wear my best. If I attend a wedding I don't buy new outfits, I choose from those I would wear for church and most weddings attended by me are held in churches anyway. If I am invited out for a meal, which is rare, I just wear smart casual, the same would apply for interviews etc.

I'm wearing one next week, to a dinner that the local volunteer's group puts on every year to thank us. I haven't worn something so dressy for several years - even this annual dinner is usually "fancy dress", so getting glammed up isn't necessary. I wore an Indian sari last time, as it was a "Bollywood night". I only have a couple of dresses - I don't go to church and rarely need a dress for anything except the occasional wedding . Slacks and a pretty blouse usually gets me by these days.

    I'm a jeans and t shirt person. I don't like dressing up.

Vintage is the best thing that's happened on the dressing up scene. It means I don't have to worry any more when I go to a wedding or such like. I just get out the vintage dress which was given to me by my neighbour in our first house.

When I do go shopping (which I try not to) I notice that other people seem to wear what I would consider best while they are actually shopping. So I suppose I'm not a good person to answer your question.

Blimey....Last time I wore a dress or tights and high heels was about 30 years ago.

I live in jeans and cargo`s and casual tops these days.

The last time I dressed up (in my style) was 5 years ago at a friends retirement party and I wore a nice pair of cargo`s and a fancy top with wedge heel pink clogs.

Like you, my formal outfits are languishing in my wardrobe. Sad and unworn. I think I should give them to the charity shop, but I keep them "Just in case" !

I donated my 'best' a while back because there's really not much of a need for them any longer. And to be honest, I knew they'd no longer fit thanks to the weight I put on since quitting smoking. :-(

Anyway, somewhere along the line I picked up a pair of dressy black palazzo pants. Kind of on a whim. Turned out to be a great purchase because depending on the occasion and what I team them up with, I can get all 'gussied up' with minimal fuss. Perfect!

    At the club.

Or a party, my dresses would be inappropriate for church or Walmart.
