What to do about screaming neighbors?

At what point should police be called? This has been a problem before I moved in. It's been gOing on for years. But when you hear phrases like "buy a handgun" followed with f*** you up, f*** him up, f*** everyone up, mixed into standard screaming it gets disturbing.

I don't know that there has been physical violence but the verbal abuse is horrendous. Other neighbors have made complaints in the past but it's one of those cases were she comes out and pleads nothings wrong.

Some of the stuff is just viscious. Last summer I believe I caught threats of "burning everyone out" when he was asked to pipe down. I don't believe anything will come of it but this goes on for hours almost daily. Neither one can work or drive. I have small children who have to hear this even being indoors (and across the road and a house down in the country) you can hear him.

I get that nothing will change, most times I can tune him out. I would be on the phone daily if I called for every time he gets going. At what point do I say enough is enough and call police out to try and tone it down a little while.

The only peace we had was while he spent seven months in the hospital after falling into a bonfire, which sounds horrible. People truly believe he was pushed. It's that bad.

Update:

No landlord involved. That would be really convient! They own a home across the street from ours. It's not so bad that I'm going to sell my house. There's a long history of disturbances already so police can't do much but if they haul him off for a night I'm hoping he'll tone it down. I might just record it if he's on about getting a gun a going after people again. That's different then his normal "get the f*** out" kind of tirade. That's what really got my attention.

Ok, let's be realistic because I've done this before. 1st if you call police it will take them forever to show if they show at all, this is not considered an emergency.

If the other tenants in the building are as upset and disturbed about this as you are I think you should all write one letter to the landlord stating your concerns. Every tenant should sign it and suggest that you meet with the landlord if necessary and as him/them to find the time to actually come and hear this themselves. Look over your lease and see if there is anything in there that states tenants can be evicted for violent behavior. If not suggest that their lease not be renewed.

    If all else fails...move out!

    Move out is the best.
