why is my car hard to start after refueling?

i went to go fill up my gas tank, started it up and it stalled out. started it again but had to rev up the engine a couple of times, car ran fine after that. its a 1995 ford explorer has the 4.0 ohv. what can be my problem?

    Fuel filter ? Ever change it Maybe emmission control purge valve or solenoid problems like the other guy mentioned!

    Maybe you are putting the wrong fuel or fuel grade in (just a guess). There might be a problem with your sparkplugs or another part of the car that depends on the car to be running for a while to work. It could also be a clogged fuel filter or fuel line. Try putting some fuel injector cleaner in next time you fuel up.

    Could be a problem with your emissions plumbing.

    The vent system purge valve to be specific.

    If the purge valve gets stuck open that can cause hard starting after fueling.

    Are you topping off your gas tank? or stopping when the nozzle first clicks off.

    If you top off the gas tank, you could be getting liquid fuel into the evaporative emissions canister. This canister is designed for fuel vapors, not liquid fuel. Symptoms like yous can occur if you overfill the gas tank.

    Stop topping off the gas tank.
