What is wrong with my brakes? My car only has 26,000 miles in 3 years yet my brakes lost it's sensitivity?

I used to be able to slow down gradually by pressing down softly on the brakes. Now the same pressure I put down doesn't slow it down like it used to. In some cases, I have to almost stand on the brakes to slow it down. I am assuming it's the brake pads but I am confused because the car does not have the wear and tear to have worn down the brake pads so quickly. So, what are your thoughts? I have a 2011 Ford Edge Limited if that helps.

It is possible your rear brakes are out of adjustment. It may be that your front pads and rotors are glazed. dousing both with brake cleaner may help as would removing the pads and sand papering them. 25,000 miles does not sound like that little to me. They may be soft material and wore out.

Check to see if you need new pads or rotors. Get a flash light and a camera. You can take pictures of the pads and rotors to see if they need replacement. Also it might be that the lines have air/moisture in them (you need to put in new brake fluid every 3 years since it absorbs moisture, which will corrode your brakes from the inside and reduce the hydraulic pressure applied.

There's a good chance that you just may need front pads and rotors. 26,000 miles with a lot of city stop and go driving could very well have worn them down. Have them checked before they start grinding or your un able to stop at all. Good luck and hope this helps.

To bad you didn't get to the Ford Garage before the bumper to bumper warranty dissapeared.
