" Truth is singular. It's 'versions' are mistruths. " - Opinions ?

If truth is singular , then we assume that there is an objective truth. Although many of us hold the belief that there is no objective truth because every truth is relative, so there can't be a singular truth because then it would be no longer relative.

What do you think about this ? ( The quote is from the movie " Cloud Atlas " )

Update:

@The Spinning Compass

"the sky is blue" - Actually the sky is not blue.

Unless we are dealing with a priori truth..we must concede that truth is indeed relative to frame of reference.

If it is singular then Hilton's Law should hold true and be a foundational element in the universe. It is just that it's devised by a person in their language at some stage during the Creation, as opposed to being the cosmic event giving rise to the universe developing as a result of a distinct division between elements.

    It states, U=M/V

Universe equals Matter per Vacuum, Everything is Stuff in Space

Factor in the lives people live, the different directions they go in and the scope of intellect and it seems to leave this behind - but it should always be there and be foundational, nothing can get under it and it cannot shift.

If this stands the test of time - then the truth is singular and no other versions can further simplify or present the fact.

As William James once wrote, you can describe a certain line as "going east" or as "going west". Neither is false. The line accepts either description as placidly as the other. what would the supposed "singular truth" be? A line parallel to the equator? A line perpendicular to the Greenwich meridian? Any of those descriptions of the same line would be true, and would make more sense for some purposes than for others.

So I disagree with the quote. As to 2+2=4: that's a very useful tautology. It follows from the way we define the numbers. But every effort to apply it to things leads us back to pluralities and relatives.

i believe that singular truth and subjective truth can exist together. The singular truth encompassing the relative ones

    2+2=4

Please explain how this is a relative truth.

"But every effort to apply it to things leads us back to pluralities and relatives."

Then your argument is irrelevant. If that's so then we can never know anything and therefore never argue anything. It's not cyclic to apply those very same definitions to "pluralities and relatives". Only now they're even more nebulous than before. And btw, 2+2=4 isn't a tautology. 1=1 .. that's a tautology.

  • Truth is not in this world. So variations of what is Truth, is actually -not-.

There is only one way to Truth. This can only be found within ones own being, through the conduit of beyond...

    Peace and Blessings

I do not agree that truth is relative. truth is absolute or "singular" as you put it. :)
