question for moms with twins...praising?

My kindergarteners have a behavioral system at their school (separate classes). Green is good, Blue is great, Purple is excellent and Pink is outstanding. My kids usually come home with any color except pink. Today when I got home my daughter said she got purple, but my son said he got pink. I guess without realizing I may have praised my son more so then my daughter because getting pink is hard and very surprised and excited that my son got it.

My daughter seemed bummed even though I gave her praise too and said she should be happy about the purple.

Has anyone with multiple kids run into this problem, with trying to balance out the praising so one kid doesn't feel left out?

Your son did better than her, so he got more praise. She will just have to work harder if she wants that kind of praise. Is it really fair to the one who got pink to get the same amount of praise as the one who got purple? No. It's not. Wouldn't you rather your daughter strive to do better, rather than your son feeling like there;s no point in doing better because you don't get anything extra?
