Live Bexley UK and have an Acorn Stair lift out of repair contract and Battery flat. How can I reset to charge?
Working well before holidays but for safety reasons turned off charging plug for 14 days, now it is not recharging. Think it will need to be reset, but what is the procedure. Or, can I refit a new battery? I am reasonable DIY. Would appreciate any suggestions please.
Have had several good suggestions which refer to changing battery. Can anyone suggest how to gain access to the "battery" ? It does seem there are three screws holding a panel on the lower side of the lift but before trying that option, I would appreciate confirmation. The Company do not apparently provide a working manual to the public, no doubt because their service charges are about £400 per annum - which is far more than a reasonable car insurance and after all the a household stair lift will only be travelling a few miles a year,- if that !.

if you can identify the existing battery then finding a replacement and fitting it is dependent on your mobility and skill.
Edit
Sorry, but if you are reluctant to undo 3 screws to take a look without asking, then replacing the battery is probably beyond you. Find a electrician or even a handyman.

It is unlikely that your battery would die just because it wasn't charged for 2 weeks. If a reset is needed, then replacing the battery won't cure the problem, but it is likely that there is a reset button or a procedure which is easily accessible to service agents. I would ring the local service depot and explain the problem, saying that you can't afford right now for an engineer to come out.
You could also re-post this problem asking if there are any Acorn Stairlift engineers who could advise you.

hi my father had one and I stripped it down , unfortunately I cant remember exactly as it was a few years ago , but it was reasonably easy to remove the casing and get into the batteries , I removed them and managed to get a bit of charge into them they are only 12 volt batteries and I managed to get replacements from maplins . There was 2 of them if I can remember correctly . you will of course be able to get batteries from companies that sell the spares for them . If you are looking for batteries on ebay or anywhere ,just make sure the physical sizes are about the same as space is limited and that the amp hour rating is the same or a bit bigger .
I have found that it is worth a try attempting these things , just make sure that you aren't forcing any parts off and maybe take pics on mobile phone as you strip it so you can remember how to put it back , just switch off the power before working on it , take your time and don't be scared after all it was built by humans so if your human you should be able to slowly figure out how it comes apart. good luck .

take existing battery out and look on line for a new one. Life expectancy is 4-5 years at most
