Can a 'kindly off duty' Acorn Stairlift Engineer or other help please?
We have an Acorn Stair Lift (Bison 80) which may need a reset. We do not have a current service contract because of the firms high annual costs. Recently we went away to visit family for two weeks and because the lift charger tended to get quite warm my wife turned off the charger. When we returned home the charger was switched on, but clearly the batteries are not getting any 'juice'. Prior to our trip, the stair lift was working perfectly, and, indeed it has never been heavily used - just when my wife occasionally gets a knee pain - which will be more often with winter upon us. I have been told that two Bison 80 (12v) batteries are installed. 1. Is it possible to recharge the batteries with a 12v Car battery charger? ( In situ or removed from Lift). OR 2. Is there a simple procedure to reset the lift to take the charge - which seems more likely. I cannot afford the firms high fee - but your secret will be safe with me ! I would be happy to pay a reasonable amount for the service - we are not on benefit so cannot get any other assistance. Thanks.
1 AnswerCivic Participation8 years agoLive Bexley UK and have an Acorn Stair lift out of repair contract and Battery flat. How can I reset to charge?
Working well before holidays but for safety reasons turned off charging plug for 14 days, now it is not recharging. Think it will need to be reset, but what is the procedure. Or, can I refit a new battery? I am reasonable DIY. Would appreciate any suggestions please.

Twenty odd years ago assisted a colleague and it was dealt with at Somerset House in the Strand but thats now changed. Can anyone explain exactly what I now have to do with the Will. It is not a big Estate so will try to deal with it - without the need of a Solicitor. Thanks.
3 AnswersLaw & Ethics8 years agoI have got an " ARNOVA/ 7b G2" and I stupidly reset and stopped 'cookies!?
Would like to do a factory reset but cannot work out how to do that on this machine. Is it possible to download a new copy of 'Internet Explorer, to take me back to the original setup? If so can anyone tell which version of Explorer is correct for the Arnova? I am getting on a bit and know little of IT matters. I bought the Arnova from BT in June 2012 so I am still in the Guarantee period but if it is a simple fix, I will give it a try. Thanks.
1 AnswerSecurity8 years agoAn elderly colleague has a stair lift fitted by a well known uk company, which has just one years warranty .?
He has been told that an extended insurance warranty is £590 for one year or £1,400 to cover 5 years. If the lift is used as much as four times a day - a total travel of about 15 metres,- that is a yearly total of 5,495 mtrs. Which is much less than 5 Miles! I feel that if this is the case, there must be many older Pensioners throughout the Uk who are being exploited. That is more expensive than an insurance warranty for a motor vehicle or any other product I can think of. Maximum speed of the lift is just abour half walking pace with no chance of colliding with another! The company do a hard sell for the extended warranty for which after all is a low volt battery vehicle. There seem to be no ready way of finding a suitable lift engineer for the item and the company does not issue a DIY service manual that could be used by a capable family member in an emergency. Is there anywhere that an out of employment person could train in this fieild - if so they could set up their own business? ARE THERE ANY QUALIFIED STAIR LIFT ENGINEERS AVAILABLE TO DO THE SERVICE FOR A PAYABLE FEE on the spot.. IF NOT THERE COULD BE A GOOD OPENING FOR a QUALIFIED REDUNDANT ENGINEERS TO SET UP WHAT COULD BE A VERY WELCOME PROFITABLE BUSINESS. Must be better than Window cleaning. Hope I have given someone a useful idea. Too old myself now.
5 AnswersSenior Citizens9 years agoHow can I transmit TV programmes from my BT Vision box to other TVs in the home without another BT Box?
This is of course a UK system, and I wish to operate the TV legitimately. I could pay/hire another British Telecom Vision Box,- which would be expensive for short period of time it would be used, but is there some other type of transmitter I could buy to do the job. I have little knowledge of modern electronics. Would appreciate any help -thanks.

5 AnswersClassical1 decade agoI have just bought a Wii machine and very pleased. How can I connect by wireless to BT Internet UK and cost ?
I did not realise it could connect through the internet when I purchased but it is not close to my computer for a wired connection. If I can connect I know I may have to buy a wireless connector - (1) Is it costly? (2) Where would I purchase the item in the UK? and (3) Will I have to pay an additional fees to BT - my ISP? Thanks for any advice.
