Is it illegal to make the letters of my license plate a different color?
I'm just wondering if this is legal, because i'm planning on making my license plate characters reflective. I was going to cover the characters with blue reflective tape. Is there any law that says i can't mess with the color of the letters? I live in California by the way.

That is totally illegal and if you get stopped (which you will) your vehicle will be impounded and you will get a ticket for altering them
If the letters are faded, go to the DMV and get a replacement plate, but do not do anything to them like you are talking about

It's illegal to modify the plate in any way. It may not be obvious, but the plate is already reflective just as the state wants it to be. If you do any modifications you're going to get pulled over and handed a ticket.

That is illegal. Are you trying to deceive a red-light camera or something? Also, the license plate is already reflective so you have no reason to do that.
It's illegal. Don't do it.

You can't do anything to the plate. It is designed so in a way that makes it easy to read... an attempt to make it easier might actually make it harder to read, especially by camera. You have to leave it as is. It's against the law to modify it in any form.
