Does the Bible say God controls this world?
Most of you will probably say yes but consider:
Jesus identified Satan as the evil mastermind behind the corrupt world we live in. He called him “the ruler of this world.” (John 12:31; 16:11) “The whole world is lying in the power of the wicked one,” wrote the apostle John. (1 John 5:19) Satan effectively uses “the desire of the flesh and the desire of the eyes and the showy display of one’s means of life” in “misleading the entire inhabited earth.” (1 John 2:16; Revelation 12:9) He is the one whom mankind in general is leading- unknowingly.

Don't take my word for it, but read the following and decide for yourself who the god of this world is.
(2 Corinthians 4:4) 4 among whom the god of this system of things has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, that the illumination of the glorious good news about the Christ, who is the image of God, might not shine through.

(James 4:4) 4 Adulteresses, do YOU not know that the friendship with the world is enmity with God? Whoever, therefore, wants to be a friend of the world is constituting himself an enemy of God.

Okay, I see your point, and in that end it may be seen that Satan controls the world. But all the while Satan does his evil, God is aware of it and told us what Satan's end will look like. So in effect, Satan is on a path where his end has already been seen as having failed. He specifically will do certain things in the still future events, lose a battle against angels and be cast down to earth. Rage around for three and a half years, then lose again and get thrown into a prison for a thousand years, then come out for a short time and cause trouble once again, then get thrown into the Lake of Fire forever.
So it sucks to be him, even though he is doing what he can on earth to change it. According to God, Satan can't change it. What we are then missing are some of the details, and when something happens which are notable, those are the details.

Jed, we ( human race) have given Satan all the power he needs on this planet to cause havoc, just look at the state of this world we live in right now. Aren't we booting God out of our houses, schools. work places, government institutions? etc. He will honour our decisions. But you must agree, He has given us plenty of signs and warnings as to what will happen if we don't acknowledge Him:- Just for instance, two world wars where God knows how many innocent people were killed. We give Satan the power every day to do as he pleases. Unfortunately, we have all told God to back off and leave us alone, after all, we can do things on our own, we don't need God interfering, do we?.

Yes. He gave Satan temporary control over it. But God's plan is finished and complete - and Satan now resides in hell forever
Rev 20:10 And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.

If God controlled the world it wouldn't be so messed up. Things will change soon though. Satan won't be allowed to run things forever.

Ultimately he's in control, yes, but does sin and Satan have some reign and rule ? Yes, but only as much as God allows.
