cost of repairing fieldstone foundation?
Im looking at buying a house that has the stone basement walls in it, the only thing down there is the furnace and water heater. But of the 4 walls one section looks as if the stone has been washed away and the basement is getting wet and has mud across the floor looks as if some stones are missing also its a section about 4ft wide and 6 ft tall. The wall on the right side of that wall looks to be bowing, Im looking to see what needs to be done and the cost of fixing. Further more there are no cracks nor uneven floors in the house the chimney is full in tact no cracks either. Any help would be great TY

Too many variables, however, some of it depends upon your location (access to labor, materials, frost line), how old it is, whether it was dry laid or mortared, and how the damage occurred (frost heaves, flooding, settling).
My fieldstone foundation was replaced with 8-foot frost walls before I bought the 100-year-old cottage. My neighbor (in the old carriage barn) had theirs replaced a few years ago by jacking up the house, scooping out the stone, laying in new footers and putting frost walls on top of the footings, then setting the house down on top of that.
It is apparently possible to "repoint" a failing stone foundation periodically, if the joints are only superficially deteriorated.
I have another house, in a slightly warmer location, with pudding-stone foundation that has not moved two inches in over 140 years.

No way of estimating something we can`t see. This is a specialized job . Call a few contractors in your area and see if they can point you towards someone that can give you an estimate. Base your purchase price pending the estimated repair costs.
