Question about graphics cards?
My graphics card has 3 inputs but only 2 that matter to me.
An HDMI, and a PCI. Now if i hook the PCI into my monitor, and hook an HDMI and run it to my tv, and say, while playing a game on my PC monitor, i'm streaming a youtube video on my TV, would that do anything to damage my card/tv/monitor?
I heard that it does, but i don't understand how it would damage them.

hi doug
I presume you mean hdmi and dvi ( digital video interface ) ... well anyway you wont do any damage to your tv if you run games or video,s from youtube
infact I purposely bought a 32" widescreen(flat ) tv so I could use it with my pc .. and I use the HDMI connection as the only video source and ive had no problems .. however you need to remember plasma and widescreen tv,s don't work in the same way as monitors
so for example you may have instances when you have no display although your pc is running .. this happens if your tv misses the signal and all you need to do is turn off the tv to standby and then turn it back on .. it will than catch the signal and you will be fine ( this applies to hdmi )
most widescreen and plasma tv,s don't have a dvi connection so you would need to use a dvi to hdmi adapter ( http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prod... ) .. this adapter simply plugs into any spare hdmi port and this then gives you a avalible dvi port
anyway back to the question. hdmi connections only carry video and audio and these will do no harm to your tv,and dvi transmits nothing harmfull
so in summary you wont do any damage to your tv,card or monitor .... the only time any damage can be caused is if you set your refresh rate too high and then you would need to do this on a continuous basis for years
I hope this helps doug...
good luck mate !

PCI is a slot on the motherboard, not a video output. I believe you are referring to DVI. No it will not damage the hardware whatsoever but performance may take a hit as the card now has to run an additional monitor.

I think you mean DVI not PCI because PCI is the port you use to put the graphics card into the motherboard. But it wouldn't damage it if you are talking about the DVI port.

It would not damage your video card or computer in any way, provided the video card is capable of what you're trying to accomplish (basically dual monitor setup).
