Why do the Lions get credited with a win even though the Bears forfeited?

It should only count as a loss for the Bears, right? It's not fair for a team to be credited with a victory just because another team let them win.

Update:

Funny when the Bears swept the Lions last year none of us rubbed it in. But hey I guess that just shows the classiness of Detroit.

The Bears have 96 career victories against the Lions. More wins one team has over another in NFL history.

Stafford has a ... 3-7 career record against the Bears yes?

    You can't have a team lose without another team winning. You either tie or there is a winner and loser. And it would be unfair for them to tie, so the second option makes sense. I don't know what sport your talking about, but this applies to all of them.

    EDIT: Sorry I choose to live in the today and now. Guess what? Michigan is the all-time most winning proogram. However, right now as a Michigan fan I can honestly tell you that we SUCK!
