Atheists, I believe that some of you are 'good' people, as in you prefer morality over immorality...?
Could you trust yourself with power like this if you found out God was real and you understood Him?
Matthew 21:18-19
18 Early in the morning, as Jesus was on his way back to the city, he was hungry. 19 Seeing a fig tree by the road, he went up to it but found nothing on it except leaves. Then he said to it, “May you never bear fruit again!” Immediately the tree withered.
I see the good in everyone, Michael, there is no doubt about that. I am tolerant. But some good does not equal 'good' by man's standards.

What's the purpose of Jesus destroying a fig tree other than to show off his powers? Seems a bit pompous to me.
Anyway, the passage then goes on to say:
20 When the disciples saw this, they were amazed. “How did the fig tree wither so quickly?” they asked.
21 Jesus replied, “Truly I tell you, if you have faith and do not doubt, not only can you do what was done to the fig tree, but also you can say to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and it will be done. 22 If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer.”
I'm waiting for Christians do do even one of the miracles Jesus claimed they were able to do.

I've never been to gaol - obviously I don't break the law or I'm am really clever ;)
"Morals can't come from religion.
If you're religious you have no basis for claiming anything is moral, all you have is that some celestial father figure will punish you if you don't do what he says.”
Nearly EVERY single advancement towards morality (I.E: ceasing native genocide, freeing the slaves and women’s suffrage) was OPPOSED by the church and Christian organizations.
“Morality is doing what is right, no matter what you are told.
Religion is doing what you are told, no matter what is right.”
There is nothing good or bad but thinking makes it so… Bill Shakespeare.
Good-bad/right-wrong are in the eyes of the beholder.

I did the same thing to a fig tree without saying anything - just a can of petrol and a match.
Thanks for believing that some of us are nice people but aren't you supposed to look for the good in everyone?
Thank you for your additional details. How can you say that you see the good in everyone and there is no doubt about that? You have already said some of us, I repeat some, are good ... That is not everyone. You are saying that there is no doubt about you seeing good in everyone. You are saying there is no doubt with no back-up. I am saying I doubt it because of your own words. I am sorry to say I doubt your tolerance as well. I do however wish you well.

First of all you assume that morality did not exist in the world until mankind invented your god. Morality is not and never has been based in religion but in mankinds need to live a social existence. You will find that religions have justified the violation of the most common moralities many times throughout history. What better way to have some one do that which is normally unacceptable in society than by saying it is ordained by a god?

I can't answer that question because it will never happen to me. It's like me trying to tell you what it'd be like to live on Pluto when I've never been there and never will be there.
No one has power like that- it's just a fairy tale.
As far as atheists not having any morals (I know you didn't say that- I'm not accusing you of that), I think it says something more about a person if they do what's right BECAUSE it's right rather than because we're afraid of being "punished" by hellfire.
Think about that.

Never understood that, if Jesus is so powerful he could have made the tree miraculously bear fruit, that makes more sense

It is not prudent to reply to such absurd and hypothetical questions. There is no evidence of God and it is futile to talk of if and buts about the hypothetical entity. Again most of the atheists are morally sound unlike religious persons and believers who do not hesitate to commit any crime just believing that prayer or faith will save them. Even the priests and holy men indulge in orgies and rape- example a renowned Indian saint and his 'saintly son' facing criminal cases for rape of minors.

That's nice. I hope you realize that I find all uninformed "belief" to be rather worthless...
Oh, and sorry, but your particular claimed god-thing is most certainly *not* real. While I can't prove there's NO god of any kind anywhere in the universe, there's already more than ample evidence to show nearly all human-claimed "gods" do not, in fact, exist. Yours included. There's no reason to think there's a "god" of any kind, but if there is one, it ain't yours.

Does it not seem to you that this passage kinda makes Jesus look a bit of a petty douchebag?

When a christian says you are going to go to hell for not believing in what they believe in, it is pointless, they don't believe in hell either. Put it this way, it is just like a hippie punching you in the aura! it doesn't affect you! And to us this question makes no sense whatsoever!
