Which is better for healing skin wounds -- my own saliva or my healthy dog's?
If you are freaking out at the very idea of licking a wound, please don't respond. And I am interested in your experiences and knowledge-based answers, not opinions. Thanks.

Dog saliva is bactericidal against some bacteria. So if I had no soap, antiseptic, or antibiotics, I would certainly allow my dog to lick my wound.

The dog tongue will also remove dead cells and bacteria and stimulate healing blood flow to the area.

Dog spit has an enzyme that the human mouth does not. While yours may be somewhat cleaner, it would be better for your dog to lick it. The enzymes from the dog saliva combat the germs anyway, so your doggies mouth is cleaner anyway. If you lick it, bacteria can get into the wound and get infected. Your dog, however, doesn't have as much bacteria. And the catalase and amylase in the saliva will speed up the healing process.
