vegetarian and thanksgiving potluck?

I'm vegetarian and my work is having a potluck next week. Is it okay to bring a vegetarian dish? Family says it's not good to be too different. I'm planning to bring BBQ Grilled Chik'n made by Beyond Meat that is sold by the pound at Roots Market. It is absolutely delish -- hot or cold!

Honey, outside of the turkey, dressing and gravy, EVERYTHING else is usually vegetarian.

cole slaw. fruit salad, candied sweet potato casserole, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, pies, cakes, tossed salads, cranberry sauce, its ALL vegetarian.

Making any one of those is NOT being "too different".

sure, some of those items often have dairy or egg in them but any one of most all traditional sides for a Thanksgiving dinner are vegetarian and with some tweaking can be vegan as well.

Who ever thinks meat eaters ONLY have turkey to eat is in idiot.

Google Thankgiving side dishes and you will see a plethora of choices that are vegetarian or can be made so VERY easily.

Sure- bring whatever you like. That's a potluck. I always thought the point was bringing something you yourself love. Then everyone can pick and choose. bringing a vegetarian dish to an omnivore potluck is totally different from bringing a meat dish to a vegetarian potluck. One is acceptable (if you're vegetarian, I'd say expected), the other is downright awful behavior. P.S. I'm a meat eater and would gladly try your dish.

Don't bring a fake meat dish - just bring a vegetable dish a stuffing type thing etc Unless you are trying to make some kind of statement about being vegetarian. No one but you will probably eat it and you will waste your money unless there are other vegetarians there. It's OK to be different, but to kind of try and be a "look at me! I'm vegetarian" is probably what your family is trying to advise you against doing.

Of course it is ok to bring something vegetarian. Just do a great bowl of mashed potatoes or rice that the others can add a portion og them to their plate.

A vegetable stew or casserole would be another idea, depending on the weather and if you want something hot warm or cold

I agree, your family is calling fake meat too different, not vegetarian dishes in general. I also agree with them: don't bring it. Nobody will touch it.

One of the points of a potluck is to try something new.

It's a potluck! Any food is good food and it's a great opportunity for you and your coworkers to try something new. I say go for it!

Yes, take whatever you like. Everyone else will bring what they like, so it is only fair you do the same. In my experience what I take goes fastest and I bet that will happen to you.. Enjoy!

Well sure it's ok to bring vegetables.... the poor people who have to eat all that turkey and fat garbage might appreciate a little nutrition.
