im 17, what will happen to my misdemeanor charge?

Today two of my friends and i got caught shoplifting at wal-mart, and ik i shouldnt have done it but i accept the consequences. it totaled to be around 134, 135. 1 of my friends is also 17 and the other is 18. The wal-mart workers said it wouldnt stay on my record, that after 6 months it would go away. The cop said the judge would probably have me watch a shoplifting video and then it would go away. i turn 18 on december 22nd and the cop said it wouldnt matter, that i'd still be charged a minor. So i was just wondering what would happen to me and my two friends? and yes, we learned our lessons.

Update:

I was also wondering would it effect my college chances, im not sure if me and my other 17 yr old friend where charged with a misdemeanor, i just know my 18 yr old friend was, so im assuming we are aswell. Also, the state is Virginina. THANKS for all help. God Bless.

Juvenile records are sealed when you turn 18. It can't be held against you. Better yet, it was a misdemeanor which is like nothing when it comes to college or work. Job applications ask if you have ever been charged with a felony. Anyone can get a misdemeanor and for very stupid reasons.

I think it will still be a minor charge that will go away, since you were caught in the act when you were still underage. Seriously of all the places to steal, why steal from Walmart???? All the stuff they sell is like half price on ebay from Chinese sellers.
