4yr old son says he's afraid of the dark....?

Hey guys,

My son just recently turned 4. We moved into a new house back in September and ever since then he has wanted to sleep in our bed. For awhile i was ok with that since it was a new house and everything but now it's gone on long enough. He claims that he's afraid of the dark so we put 2 night lights in his room and while he's fallign asleep we let him watch a movie. we also put up a gate so that he can't get out and has to stay in there. for the last two weeks this was working fine. but then last night he stood at the gate and cried for us saying he was scared agian. instead of comforting him and putting him back to bed my partner just brought him in bed. i already had a talk with him about how we need to be consistant with our son. what are a few tips and tricks that have worked for you?

Thanks

Make Prince Dream-a-Lot Spray (or whatever you want to call it). Then tell a story how the magic spray keeps kids safe in their beds, and gives them magical sweet dreams. And in those dreams, they have the power to .........

    .

    To make Super Hero Spray:

Fill a spray bottle with water and add a few drops of lavender* essential oil (enough to make it smell mildly of lavender – around 5-10 drops). Use permanent marker to make a “label” (or design one on the computer, print it out, and tape it on if you’re the crafty type).

    .

Also since this is a new house, lay down with him in bed at night for a bit before he falls to sleep. Talk about the shadows and sounds he hears in the house. Don't fall into the trap of putting the TV on to get him to fall asleep.

ha ha ha nothing worked. he was in my bed until he was 9. i did not draw the curtains shut in his room

and a man stood outside the window and looked at him. that was the end of him sleeping away from me.

look at his room. is there something making a noise or are lights making shadows? if you confirm, no

movement or disturbance, in his room, then get tough. put him to bed, with his favorite stuffed animal, at

the same time, every night, and tell him, he will stay in bed, even if he does not sleep.

I had a problem when I was younger, I don't think you can solve it right away. I had to sleep next to my brother every night until i was around 15. You might need to get professional help because the only thing that helped me out.
