I would say that a ragdoll is an excellent cat for a first-time owner. The only caveat is that you'll have to be prepared to care for a long haired cat. You'll need to groom her, clean up lots of cat hair, and I hope you're not allergic!
As far as personality goes, you couldn't ask for a sweeter, cuddlier cat than a ragdoll. They really bond with their owners, and they always want to be near you. She'll follow you around, meet you at the door when you come home, sleep on your lap, play, and generally bask in all the attention you can give her.

Absolutely, unless you are wanting a very independent cat that is more self efficient. I always called my ragdolls catdogs because they are emotionally needy n extremely affectionate. So if you want a super soft little loveball I think they are perfect. If you want a cat whose love you will have to earn but who will be very self sufficient (and an excellent pest control specialist). I have two Bengals currently and still one ragdoll running around somewhere lol but we have a farm. The Bengals are some of my favorite cats tho if u want the independent type with a bit of a wild streak. I have an F3 and an F4. The F3 being my orange male breeder named tiger who is a very unique Bengal and the F4 a snow Bengal female. I would recommend a female of at least F4 or higher for a first time owner as they are more docile and affectionate compared to the wilder F3 that still carries an 1/8 leopard blood. Anyway, spend time holding whoever it is before you take them home.

Well, my first cat was a ragdoll, she's a champ! I love her to death!! She's more like a dog in ways hehe. She has long hair so she needs to be brushed once of twice a week, she's great with my 2 yr old son (she's never tried to hurt him) and she's quite a lazy cat- she sleeps and lounges around a lot!
She was the perfect first cat for me! :)

Ragdolls are honestly some of the sweetest cats. They're amazing and adorable- definitely recommend them. Be prepared to brush out their long hair, though, or else it will get tangled quite easily.

Ragdoll cats are sweet, affectionate, and laid back. It does seem to be difficult to train or discipline these cats because of their independent attitude. They may also take extra grooming. A great first time cat is the American/English shorthair these are typically quiet, low maintenance cats with a loving demeanor. They are a common breed and have no common health issues among the breed. They are a good sturdy pet.

Honestly I don't recommend any kind of longhair cat for first time owners. All of them require daily to 2-3 x a week combing and if you are not committed to this for the life of the cat, then stick to a shorthair cat.
