Will I be denied unemployment for quitting a job after 4 weeks?

Here's my situation: I was laid off from my job in May 2013 and have been collecting unemployment since then. My benefit year was supposed to run until April/May 2014. In November 2013 I accepted a new job however after 4 weeks I quit because I absolutely hated it and therefore reopened my claim. I was told that due to me being employed for such a short time at the new place that it shouldn't affect my benefits and I could go back to collecting but the employer has contested the claim and I am awaiting a determination.

If I am denied from that employer for those 4 weeks does that mean I can't go back to collecting off the employer I was laid off from to complete the benefit year?

Also I was told it would take 8 weeks to get a determination. Does it really take that long?

depends on what State you live in. In North Carolina taking and then quitting that job would make you ineligible for unemployment.
